I shouldered a new rifle the other day and noticed that in the right light a ring could be seen on the outside of the barrel (I couldn't capture a picture of it). Upon further inspection I noticed down the barrel, that the ring was visible on the inside of the bore as well. (It's faint but you can see it in the pic)

What would cause this?

If you have specific shadow rings in the barrel that is where the barrel is bulged, usually from firing when there is an obstruction. You should be able to feel the bulge on the outside of the barrel, unless the barrel was refinished after the bulge.

It doesn't sound like a new rifle. How does it shoot? Ring at the muzzle usually results in poor accuracy.

It's a faint (raised) ring that circles the entire bore including the rifling.

I didn't buy it, so I can't comment on its accuracy. It is new in box at a retailer.
