I just received a sporterized K98 (BCD 43)with double claw mounts that I want to build back into sniper configuration. My question is does anyone know if you can still remove the sporterized barrel without messing with the front scope base? Thanks, Mark K

Might want to try this in the gunsmith forum too. The smiths on the board might have a better chance of answering. Good luck and make sure you post pics when she's done!!

Take it to a GOOD gunsmith and let him work his magic. Yes, it's possible to do that swap if you have the right tools and know your trade.

OH MAN....you really wasted your money, there is just no way to fix it.......

But, I'll tell you want, just to be a NICE GUY, I'll take it off your hands and use it as parts......... AND, being such a NICE GUY, I'll even give you your full price you paid for it.

(I'm only saying this, because you some how beat me to punch on that rifle, and I have a spare mauser barrel in my barrel box as well.....)

But really, if you ever what to drop the project, let me know, I will make it worth your while..

And really, you should have no problem changing the barrel, if you can find a good gun smith, and I just happen to have one living on my road, about 10 mins away.... hee hee

cheers
Dean

If that was the one from Epps, it is a nice score!! Congrats, can't wait to see the finished product!

No, it wasn't the one from Epps, but it came with a nice Dr. Schroder 6x scope in the rings. I'll post pics when I start the work in the spring. Anyone have a old 8mm barrel with sight they don't need? Mark

The K98 barrel is threaded and screws into the receiver.
Are you thinking the dovetail is cut into the barrel threads?
Take it to a gunsmith who has worked on 98's.

Are you looking for a particular year and manufacturer of barrel
with the proper markings for your rifle? Or it doesn't matter?
You could even put on a new barrel, from a Shillen blank.
There are lots of K98 barrels out there, and they do show up on ebay as well as other places, just depends what you are looking for.
