Just finished putting a Stevens 243 Barrel on an old left hand Savage that was a 308. Hardest part was getting the old barrel off. It had an old style smooth barrel nut and I had no proper spanner. There was also a bit of rust which I suspected before taking the old barrel off and confirmed when it finally budged. Just test fired it and all is well. I love it when a plan comes together. I chased the receiver threads before reassembly, no apparent damage from the rust. The 243 is a sweet shooting round with little recoil. Now I will give it to my son's wife. Maybe he can convince her to go hunting with him.
