Barrel swaps on 10/22

Hello, I'm just looking for information on the good, the bad and the don't even think its on barrel swaps on my 10/22. I see on the EE and other places where guys have swapped out the barrels on their rifles. I'm guessing that this is to achieve better accuracy or to look cool? I'm new so I figured this was the place to ask.

Unfortynately the awesome barrels are hard to find, gun stores rarely will have a kidd bull barrel or volquartsen. Those are prob some of the best companies for 10 22 mods.
