Barrel Taper?

So I'm starting my first rifle build. I bought an old barrel blank from a local gunsmith that is raw - as in the mill scale is still present.

Since I have to contour the barrel myself, (nothing I cant handle) I was wondering what taper most people prefer? Building a heavy barreled rifle for field use (hunting etc,) not just a range queen.

Why dont you go with the M40? 1.200" for 4" straight taper to .920" at the muzzle, crown is 45 degree .090" deep.

If your going to be carrying it around hunting as well, I would suggets something more on a "medium palma" contour +- to your tastes. All of the barrel mfg's have their specs on their websites to give you a better idea of contour vs. weight.
