Barrel Thread - figuring out my size? (for protector)

Hi there!

Just curious if anyone can help. I have an aftermarket stormlake barrel, that I purchased off the EE a year or two ago.

I was thinking of getting a barrel thread protector cap for it (just some generic one), for when I don't have a compensator on there.... The thing is, I don't know what thread it is (angle or pitch or whatnot).

Is there any way of finding out, or do I have to have one of those special gauges that you just press against the thread to figure it out? (sort of like a saw blade)

Any help would be good! Thanks!

measure the outside of the threads, that will be your diameter.

count the number of threads in 1/4", multiply by 4 for your thread count.

It will most likely be 1/2 x 28 tpi if it's a 9mm or .22, and for a glock or North American firearm. If it's a HK or other European gun, the threads may be in metric.

Oh neat, thanks for the tip!

Its on a 45 (1911), so it'll be a bit bigger than a .22.... or so I'd hope! haha

Well, it wont be 1/2-28 in such a large bore. Try searching the manufacturer of you gun and ask them what the exact spec is. Or take the barrel to a machine shop; someone will have the gauges necessary to make an exact determination.
