Can anyone point me to a source for barrel thread sizes for a variety of actions? E.g.

Mauser Large and Small
Win M70
Rem 700
Browning
Various Milsurps
etc.

A comprehensive list would be a good sticky.

Possibly easier to find is Roy Dunlap's " Gunsmithing" - frequently show up on eBay under - gunsmithing - but mine was a $2.00 garage sale find. Also contains a host of other tech data for firearms / cartridges from about the mid '60's and prior.

700. inches o.d. on the yugo does not compute ,being a basic mauser .980" or 1.100" is more likely to be the wright size, tread picht normaly 12 tpi. Bob

All of the info came from Frank de Haas' book "Bolt Action Rifles".

There are other differences with the Yugoslavian Mausers than just the barrel thread, like guard screw spacing. They are not compatible with Herr Doktor Mauser's Model 1898. Don't blame the internet, blame Tito.

The guard screw spacing on the Yugos is for the intermediate length. Nothing "wrong" with it, it was used in other actions as well (such as the 36 Mexican). Basically, mausers come in three receiver ring sizes, two thread diameters, and three lengths. And yes, they sometimes mixed and matched to make the customer happy. - dan
