I think that op has a very viable venture planned since I know many many people who have lathes both new and old including myself and he's the only one who has one that can cut that thead that I'm aware of.
The 3 tpi left hand buttress thread may not be common to regular smith's but it sure is common to us Ross guys.
I've rebarrelled 2 rifles with that thread in the last year. It would be nice if I could just buy a new blank and install that instead of looking for beat to death parts rifles to use as a donor.
