Barrel Vice cost?

i doubt that anyone in Canada stocks them. Best bet is probably Brownell's. You'll need the proper size insert for the barrel you're working on. Also a suitable action wrench.

You could probably make the vise if you could drill the hole through the steel blocks, but the insert would be tricky, although I've heard of people moulding them with Devcon epoxy steel. I was going to try making a vise using 1/2" steel plates and hardwood "jaws" as the hardwood would be easier to drill out but I never got around to it, nor the action wrench. The sucess of anything you make likely depends on how tough the barrel you want to remove is. The commercial vises & wrenches are built to allow you to provide a LOT of torque when it's needed.

I made this on my lathe and drill press. Started with 2 inch square stock... made it 1.5 inches thick x 2 inches high. The hole is 1.5 inches to accept bushings I make to fit the job. I have straight bushings at 1", 1.1", 1.150", 1.750", 1.200", 1.250"... and a few tapered for specific barrels... When installing a new blank barrel I always turn it to match the closest bushing.

I have one like Dennis's, with several inserts and two action wrenches I paid 250$ on ebay

I made and sold a couple like the one I use, similar to guntech's. Used 1 1/2" square steel, bored for 1 1/2" diameter aluminum bushings.
Material cost, plus the time involved, and the postage drove the price higher than I wanted.

Unless you're planning on changing a bunch of barrels, buying a barrel vice isn't a great idea. And it's not the only tool you'd need. However, a barrel vice from Brownell's, runs $50US and up. You'll need bushings specific to the size and taper of the barrel and a proper action wrench for your rifle. Shipping cost from the States will give you a stroke too. And don't for get the solid work bench.
$250 on E-Bay gave money to the people who want to take your property away from you.
