hi guys, of the factory rifles, which brands use what tpi (thread per inch) on their threads?

the question behind it is which brands are interchangeable?

thanks

WL

Interchangeable? Not really.
A number of makers use 1-16, but apart from the threads, everything else about the shank and chambering is different. With machining, some barrels can be fitted to rifles of different makes.

Are you referring to the barrel tenon or a threaded muzzle? 16 TPI is common for the tenon and at the muzzle .22 cals are generally 1/2X28 and .243 to .30 cals are usually 5/8X24... but if it is a bubba job, it could be anything... have seen alot of 9/16X28 on quarter bores and 6.5mm's...

I am guessing you are referring to the tenon... shank length will come into play also... getting it properly seated will be a big issue.

awww yeah rightio, so it wont really be that fit an finish, even if thread is same, the shank an diameter possibly all different?!

I was just thinking, why couldn't I say buy a 2nd hand "Winchester" barrel an fit it onto a ?"Remington" (for conversation sake)

by the sounds its obviously got to be within the family, Remington barrel for a Remington, without having too much machining an 'carry on' involved..

Cheers!

A Winchester 70 has 1" threads, a Remington 700 about 1 1/16". Both 16 pitch. A Remington barrel can be remachined to fit a Winchester.
