Barrels

Hi all,

I'm interested in an explanation of the process of creating a precision barrel. Can someone post a step-by-step description of the process? I looked at a definition in Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifling ) but their article covers everything up to and including tank artillery.

I used to have an excellent article written by Dr. Geoff Kolbe of Border barrels on the steps and equipment used in making a precision barrel. His is the most authoritative article on the subject ever written. I found a copy of it on the net.

Simple answer is minimizing variations in all parameters including quality of the steel used, bore location, bore and land diameters, outside contouring relative to the bore, and stress relieving.
