So I have got the long range bug. I have been looking around at several different guns. I have settled on a .338LM for the round.

I was looking at barrett's 98 bravo. I was wondering if anyone has ever used one. What are they like, how do they shoot. What problems to they have. Most of what I read said that they are good guns but some complained about only getting 1.5 moa out of them.

To give you some backgound. I have been shooting for the last 10 years. I have everything from 22lr up to .338 win mag. I have got groups as good as 0.3 MOA, with one of my rifles, before so percision shooting is not new to me.

Suggestion for other brands are welcome. Price is not a object.

Thanks

Build your own!

For that kind of money you should be contacting ATRS and getting something started.

Go check out some long range competitors gear, and see how many are using a 98B.

Edit:

I should mention I have shot a 98B on a few occasions and it is pretty nice as far as fit and finish and accuracy is great from what the owner tells me, but he says his TRG shoots better.

So if you just want something out of the box I would be going with a Sako TRG - 42.

Know exactly what you mean, specially the new barret MRAD .338 Lapua Magnum Rifle System: 24.5" barrett's, Multi-Role Brown, beautiful rifle, with some one know how to handle that type of Caliber, it wouldn't be hard to get 1/2 moa out to 700-800meter.
Forget about getting custom.
there is nothing wrong with SAKO TRG42, for what you paying for, it a very accurate gun.

I was hoping to get a rig that would do good out to one mile or more not just 700 or 800 yards. That is why I said that I wanted to start trying to look for the right rifle right off the bat. I know it will take a while before I ever shoot that far. I know it will take alot of trigger time. I want to find out what is the best rig and get it in the begining. If I have to go custom then I will. I like the look of the Barrett but the issue is I don't want to spen 5500 on a gun that I dont know anything about. Does the Barrett rail have moa in it ect. Thanks.

Sako trg 42 either in 300wm or 338lapua will do more than what you wanted out and beyond that diatance

I would not suggest to get the Barrett 98 Bravo as the new MRAD is coming out which u can change caliber.

We wil be bring some in, we have the export permit approved already just waiting for hte supplier to get their shipment.

What happend to, "cost is no object"?

If you want proven reliable and consistent performance then listen what the guys here are telling you. If you want off the shelf store bought then you can't do much better than the TRG 42. If you're willing to go custom, then the sky is the limit and you can build whatever suits your needs.

Savage 110BA in 300wm, It is less $$$ with good optics and once you shoot out the original barrel, a prefit replacement can be spun on for $500. If you doubt its capabilities as sold by savage then come shoot mine. Or talk to dhunter in GP and watch him shoot his 1760yrds accurately. I am sure he would love to prove it to you too.

Do not doubt that I would LOVE to have a Timberwolf or Coyote one day also, but for now I own the little known STEAL of a deal in the tactical rifle section.

Cost is not a object. I may not have explained myself properly in that. What I ment is I will spend the money if it is worth it. I just don't want to spend money on a gun that will not shoot. That is why I am asking about it. Is the 98 bravo worth it.

I have no issue with savage. I own 3. My .338wm does better than what I expected it to with some warm handloads. I was thinking about one of them.

I took a rifle course where a 98 was present.

The owner of the 98 also had a friend there with his old HS Precision. With handloads the HS was shooting tighter groups.

Now this could be due to lack of load development in the 98.

Might have better luck asking this question on a US based siper forum or long range forum. Barretts will be more common down there.

Buy 3 savages with optics for the price of the Barret, or a PGW timberwolf and a savage with optics!

From what I have read the Timberwolf beats the barret in service rifle competitions anyways.

If you ever found both of these rifles at match together here in Canada, then you should go out and buy a lottery ticket because you'd be exceptionally lucky to see it happen. Not to mention that there's a high probability that the range template or match rules won't let you shoot .338 LM to begin with.

My 110BA is 300wm, I'm sure it will be on the range template. And getting 3 with optics for the price of 1 barret without optics, not to mention shooting 30cal affordability. Its a winner.
