Did anybody see the news on the questar website? This gun is nor considered a variant of the barrett model 90 even though its a bolt action bullpup and not a semi:rolleyes: Not to mention I seem to remember Wolverine getting the normal model 99 in 50.cal without restriction.:runaway:

How do we allow people this stupid into the RCMP anyways? How can these people enforce any law?
 
I believe the Barrett Model 82A1 is the semi-auto 50.

The .50 BMG bolt action rifles from Barrett are in fact model 90's; the single shots are Model 99 and 99-1. The 5-shot bolt action repeater is the M95SP. The M99 or M99-1 is also available in the .416 Barrett. Seems like the RCMP's designation of the .416 Barret in the bolt action a "model 90 variant" is correct, but as a bolt action .50BMG, or .416 in this case, it should be allowed in Canada, I would of thought :confused:

Must mean Barrett's bolt rifles are outright prohibited in Canada ?

I also read something a while ago that the US government would not allow the 416 Barret to be exported because it could easily be converted to a 50 BMG so they consider it the same as any other 50 BMG rifle. It must be a weapon of mass destruction.

Lets just clarify that the RCMP does not make Canada's gun laws, the government and politicians do that. The RCMP, being the Federal Law Enforcement agency is to simply enforce the laws the Government puts in place. The classification of a particular firearm, again, is not done my the RCMP but the Canadian Firearms Center along with your friends in the Government :)

A lot of what is and is not allowed into Canada these days, ie Barrett's products & .50 cal ammo, has more to do with the export side with the US State Department than here in Canada.

The 90 is ALSO a bolt-action, so action type doesn't have anything to do with it; the 82/82A1 and 90 are prohibited by name (including variants) simply because they were prominent when the LIEberals and CFGC drew up their "guns that Canadians are too stupid and dangerous to be trusted with" list.
 
The problem getting the Barrett M-99 in .416 into Canada is US State Dept. restrictions, not Canadian gun laws. There was a good thread on this topic months ago when the .416 first got major notice. Try searching and you might find it again.

If I'm reading Marks website information correctly, he was able to get export permits from the State Department, but that no longer matters as the RCMP have found the gun to be prohib.
