I picked up a barska ac12176 red dot from a member on this forum. Red dot is in excellent shape, looks great and held a zero on one of my ARs for about 200rds fired on its first rage outing.

However, the illumination is barely visible in an outdoor environment. I tried both the red or green reticule and I can barely see it on a bright sunny day. I tried 2 new batteries and the result was no different. When u compare it to a cheapy tasco red dot under the same conditions, the tasco is 100 times brighter and is very visible.

Is there anything I can do or is this a lemon ?

I was super happy to finally have some optics for my ccs ar. Man am I disappointed now that I got to try it. I really hope someone hasn't any suggestions

This is why cheap optics don't last or go up for sale quick. I only use them on .22LR in most cases. I have a Barska 3-18{?)x50 that came with my MVP 5.56 that's now on my CZ LUZ .22LR, works great on that.

If it used to be brighter and only started to fade/washout after shooting a few hundred rounds it might be contact points. I don't know the optic so I can't say but if you're mechanically inclined you can open the battery compartment and see if any of the power contact points are tarnished or flattened out and clean/bend them back a bit. Anything else you might be better off contacting Barskafor warranty info.
