Looking at a Barska 8-32x44( Barska AC10548 Tactical 8-32x44 Swat 30mm IR Mil-Dot Rifle Scope) for my 223, Has anyone here used one? $254, Just wondering if they are worth the money or if they are any good.
Thanks in advance

For high magnification scopes, you need to spend some money.....components need to be of very high quality otherwise you get a #### cloudy unfocused view. Barska is low end cheap optics. You will probably find it unusable above 15x.
You would be better off with clear glass at lower power then crap glass at high magnification. For $250 you can get a Bushnell 10x40 Elite which is a much better scope then anything Barska makes.

OP, listen to Hitzy. You will buy a dozen knock off, cheap scopes and then all of a sudden you will put out enough cash to buy a decent one. You won't go back and you will kick yourself for not doing it right the first time and spending enough money to pick up a high end product, as you should have done in the first place.

Save your pennies until you can afford a decent scope with decent optics. As mentioned, the Bushnell Elite models are a good start.

One of the big problems with scopes like the Barska's is that they have very a very shallow depth of field. They were designed for the shooter that shoots at set distances. For example 25 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters etc.

They quickly lose focus and their paralax goes out of whack at every slightly different range change.

If you shoot off the bench at fixed ranges regularly and don't go into the field and shoot at differing ranges, the Barska will work.

I have owned 2 Barska scopes and I will tell you this........

Instead of wasting the 250 just go out and find 2 glass coke bottles and break/cut the bottoms off of them and duct tape the 2 bottoms to a cardboard paper towel tube.

This way you have better optics and the satisfaction that you made your own scope from scratch.
