Base and Ring question

So I'm saving up for a new scope a Bushnell Elite 3200 to mount on my M88 in .308 Win. I haven't decided on the exact model yet but not my question. I have a once piece weaver base and weaver 1" rings and I'm wondering if they are of good enough quality to mount the scope on or should I get something good like a Ruger or a Leupold base and rings? Do Ruger or Leupold make bases for the M88? I'm a month or two from getting the scope but I'd like to figure out everything I need to get and find out how much it will cost to redrill my gun if I get a different base for it. I want a good scope with a good solid mount for the spring bear hunt. I don't mind hunting with iron sites but scopes are much nicer for shooting over 100-150 yards. Thanks

If I missed a different brand of Bases or Rings I should look at let me know.

stick with the Weaver bases and go with the Leupold PRW weaver style rings, medium height should work well. They're nice and strong, look good too. WAYYY better than weaver junk

Weaver rings 7 bases are perfectly acceptable for a 88 Winny.
I'm kinda lost on first 3 words and 1 number. I know next to nothing about scopes rings and bases. So I got help on the scope now I'm getting help on the rest.

It's the older verson of the weave base that I have. Think 30 year old base and rings. So the Leupold PRW weaver style rings are better then anything I can get in Ruger?

He meant rings & bases.

Ruger only makes rings for Ruger guns. I have had good luck with Burris Zee rings on weaver bases. They go for $28/pair or so...better setup than weaver rings, and are solid steel.

Several manufacturers sell Weaver compatible rings, as noted above. Ruger bases are for Rugers! The rings have different features - quick release, windage adjustable, etc. Standard Weaver rings work fine - I use them on several rifles. However, they tend to rotate the scope slightly when tightened, making them a bit of a pain.
The Weaver bases themselves are fine for your rifle, leave them as is. Why would you redrill the receiver? You'd be ruining any potential collectibility of the gun.
The Burris Z signatures are nice in that they wont mark up your new 3200...

The weaver products you have now will work as they have on many many rifles over the years. I definitely would not change the base.

Like others have said, I prefer and can offer, Burris Signature ZEE rings. These are much stronger then the Weaver rings and their inserts ensure no marks on the scope.

When properly installed, the chances of your scope slipping approach ZERO. Weavers can loosen and strip.

PM me if you would like a set of rings. I have the Med high rings in stock.

I didn't know the M88 in .308 could be a collectors gun. Kinda late for collectors peice as it's already drilled for the weaver base, I would think but I could be wrong. Gonna keep the base and use it thanks for that now for the rings...
A PM will be sent about the other rings mysticplayer.

I'm gonna get new rings for sure, but my old rings are the 4 screw version and pretty heavy I think they are steel too but again I know nothing about this stuff. they are gonna be used on my brothers P14 with one of my junk scopes till he upgrades his stuff. Is there any inserts I can put on the inside of the rings to prevent the rings from damaging what ever gets put in them and where do I find them?

Dude
1) Your rifle came drilled and tapped from the factory.
2) The Burris Signatures come with a plastic sleeve, or "insert" as Mystic mentioned. Otherwise, with plain rings you can use scotch tape, but it takes some skill (manual dexterity) to do.

A bit slow on the uptake today? ... easy on the meds...:D

Could you give me a price for a medium set of 1" matte sig. Z rings and a good two piece steel base (Winchester 70)?

Also do you have the Z ring offset alignment kit in stock?

Please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Frosty.

PS your PM box is Full!!!
