I am happy to say that I completed a deal today (through the EE of course) on a Remington M700 Police in .308. I have read many posts in this forum about this particular rifle and there sure seems to be a lot of experience here. I was hoping that this experience might help in choosing a base and rings for this gun. This is my first venture into something a little more serious, so I am learing as I go. :)

Although I am unsure what kind of scope I will put on it, I do know that it will likely be a 30mm tube with a 40 mm objective, something similar to a Mark 4 LR/T.

Currently, I am leaning towards a Warne Maxima picatinny base and medium rings. I say medium rings because I have a M700 BDL with a Leupold VXIII 3x9x40, Leupold base and rings and the cheek weld there seems to align with the scope nicely so I am assuming that medium rings should work on the 700P as well?

Your thoughts/comments on this setup would be greatly appreciated.

You are on a pretty good track with that selection. Another set of rings to consider are the Burris Extreme Tactical 30mm med rings. They will fit any picatinny base as well as your standard weaver or warne bases.

Welcome to the M700P club. We have piles of M700's showing up at our Precision Rifle matches (ORA Mons Range). I enjoy examining the various systems of mounting glass on the many platforms.

What is most prolific ? Everyone seems to like to mount the Picatinny rails like Near, Farrell, TPS, MWG, Badger Ordnance kit. I can't recall all of the names, but tactical bases are all around us. All depends what your budget and supply is like where you live/shop.

See what works for you. Don't forget the LCV when you select your kit. (look cool value) LOL

Cheers,
Barney

Well I'm partial to TPS for obvious reasons. Quality and price. Steel bases @ $90 to $95 and rings for around $100 how can you go wrong.

If you like send me a pm and we can quote you some prices.

Regards

Joe

PS - we also carry Warne bases and Farrell.
