I need some help with scope bases.

First the obvious one. What bases to use for a Stevens 200 rem 7mm. I've been told that you can use those made for the Savage 110 but be careful that you order the old style or was it the new style because they don't have curved base on the front or was it the rear base. I've heard so many versions I'm not sure what is right anymore. I'd like to hear from any of the Stevens users as to what they put on thier gun and how they like it.

Second... Any one have any idea what bases to use on a Rem XR-100 Rangmaster. It appears to be a 700 action but if you read the literature it's a model 7 action that has been modified. Modified? In what way? I can't seem to find any listing with Leupold,Burris or Weaver for this gun. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help

On my XR-100 Rangemaster I use a Leupold QR Rem700S.A. 51247,matte base,You will need to put a shim under the rear part of the base, when you install it.

I used Weaver bases and rings on my Stevens 200. The Stevens and new Savages have a round receiver. On the older Savages the rear receiver bridge was flat.

If you go with the Weaver bases, you'll require 2 #46 bases. ( possibly #402 extension bases if you have a short scope tube )

For the rings, you'll have to pick the appropriate height for your scope.

I got mine from S.I.R. ( Cabelas now I guess ) I didn't require any shimming of the bases, but I did use a skim coat of bedding material between the rings and the scope to get 100% contact. After it dried I removed the scope ( used release agent) cleaned up any excess, then installed scope and tightened rings.

A possible alternative to the bases/rings might be a one piece mount like the Dednutz mount. I haven't used one but it looks like a good product.

Put a set of Leupold bases and rings - STD's - on my 200. That's what they gave me at WSS. Turned out you can't use them in the typical setup which is for the windage adjustment at the back of the rear base - you can't lift the bolt high enough because of the right hand adjustment screw head being in the way of the upper bolt throw. Switched them around and now the adjustment is the rear of the front base. Height is the same and though it looks like it might interfere with ejection, it doesn't. Works fine. Good mounts, the Leupolds. Nice and solid. They tell you to oil the Torx screws and apply standard torque with the crappy Torx head wrench supplied. Nope. I used a torque driver and medium set Loctite once I had the configuration right. 10-15 in/lbs isn't much, especially with oiled threads.

I have Talley Lightweights on my Stevens. The setup works perfectly with my Burris 3-9 Signature but if you have a Leupold Rifleman (and I think VX-1 or 2 as well) that the scope tube will be about 3/16" too short to fit in standard rings and bases. You'll need an extension base or a full length rail.

That Dednutz base looks liek it would be worth trying too.
