Now that I've had the chance to put about 400 rounds under this mount, I'd have to say it's a winner. The system is based on a single hardened bolt which threads into the M14 receiver. The ribs on the mount fit into the recesses on the receiver and that's it. No locktite. No need to take out the guide and you can still use the irons if the ocular isn't too big. The bolt in the mount has never shaken loose, which is quite incredible, considering the specified torque is 20in/lbs. This tightness is achieved by using the little wrench supplied and simply placing it on the bolt (after finger tightening it) and while holding onto the string, lift the rifle off the ground. It works! The mount is rock solid. I did an occasional check with the wrench just to see.The machining is so good that I was able to take the mount off the rifle I was using and had zeroed, then replace it without loosing zero. Next I took it off the same rifle and put it on a different one and the shift was only a few clicks from point of aim. The mount is an agle mount which seems to be about a 45 degree cant. The spent casings don't hit the scope and none were deflected by the mount itself.
They ship up here costs about a hundred and they take commie liberal conservative propagating (FRAUD ALERT)
I just had to post my two cents worth after reading all the prvious woes concerning mounts:needPics:

That's the torque wrench! Stand the rifle on its butt and lift up slowly on the string til the rifle is off the ground.... voila repeatable torque without jerking around

I'm glad to hear it fit your Norinco well. I was suggesting this mount to a friend, but when I went to Basset's websight, they have testimonials, and the one from an engineer suggested that it might not fit some chinese receivers. What vintage are your Norincos? 2007's?

Well I just ordered one,However question?seeing how everything over $100. requires a import permit I'am hoping that shipping fees don't count towards that $100.Anyone know for sure??

No, assuming there is a restriction to $100 or less, the shipping fees don't count. At least Boyd's stocks doesn't work that way. Good luck and let us know how the mount works on your rifle.

A welfare torque wrench! Love it! Longer bars will give greater footpounds. Although longer bars on a Friday night lead to greater hangovers.

I used the same type yesterday. Never lost zero. Good little mount for sure. My only complaint was with scope relief. I couldn't get the scope far enough back for my liking but that may be more a scope issue than a mount issue.

Scope relief looks like it could be an issue on some scopes as there is not much for adjustment. That is the problem with a lot of the M14 mounts though. I had to get a riser rail for a scope I put on mine because the arms never came back far enough.

I've been told on a American Board scope mounts are accessories and not rifle parts so they do not need export permits, and that Brownells is just way too wanting of export papers when it comes to scope mounts.

My Basset mount showed up today. From the email saying it was being shipped to arrival was just over a week. I'm impressed with it so far. I like the KISS factor so this fits the bill nicely.

I would use the lowest rings I could find and still have the clearance for the ocular end. Taller rings only move the centre axis of the scope off line. The eye relief is a bit of a problem, but that isn't really the mounts fault. With my scope setup I can still see underneath the mount with the irons. But the best part is the ability to take the scope off the rifle and replace it to the same zero. I've even changed rifles and was pleased to see not a huge variation in zero - ie still on paper. It works good enough for the welfare sportsman. With the cost of ammo going thru the roof, we'll all be in the poor house soon

recieved my Basset (after a long drawnout affair with Canada post, which I won"t go into here)Insatalled it on my new M1a. It looks like a verywell made piece,Fits really well no problems looking for torque numbers etc.Only one problem now what scope to get for it.and what mounts anyone got any suggestions,I plan on ordering an other for my Norinco as soon as I get back to work.

Range Report

I finally got some range time with my Bassett mount. I love this thing!

I was working up loads and trying to figure out what was causing my M14 to have failures to cycle. I sighted the rifle, and then fired 150 rounds of 6 different loads. I pulled the rifle apart 4 times as I tried different things to sort out the cycling problem. I took the Bassett mount off 4 times after the initial sighting.

Here is a 10 shot group, after the fourth time I took the Bassett mount off and put it back on. This mount holds zero perfectly!
