I'm hoping someone knows of a Canadian distributor
of BAT actions...I contacted BAT but no reply...seems
they must have too much business...
thanks

Rick at Alberta Tactical is a purveyor of all things wild and funky like BAT. Just be prepared to celebrate at least one Christmas before it gets here... and that has nothing to do with Rick!

I do bring them in as requested.
Great actions, but like all great things pricey.
With recent rulings by the Dept of State, many smaller manufacturers like BAT are feeling the pinch as they must be registered as " exporting manufacturers" for any goods they may want anyone to export from the US. BAT does not export on their own, they rely like many on dedicated exporters, but now must register and pony up $1700.00 before the DOS will approve any export permits that include their products.
As Obtunded mentioned, it is not a fast endeavor.

I hope he is not a close friend as what you are suggesting is illegal import and illegal export which could make him Bubbas new wife.

There are NO big stocking distributors per se for BAT, Nesika or many other custom action makers, only a few small shops that import a few actions at a time. The possible reality that BAT has actions on the shelf in a foreign country is irellevant, firearms parts are controlled goods that require permits, end of story.
I rather resent your reply in fact, I bust my arse to get items into Canada from several countries. Unfortunately as I operate only by legal means and have no control over our government, who takes 6 weeks to process an IIC or the US government who can take 6 months to process and export permit, it takes time to get stuff.
Rather than #####ing about the few dealers who even bother to import gun parts, maybe you should give it a try, you may then have a better grasp of reality and be singing a far different tune that the 1 you have now.

Sandyn:

I thought you were asking for a BAT action, not a soap box for your ill-conceived diatribe.
I find your comments obtuse at best, and frankly ignorant.

I suggest you read the rules for using this forum:

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:

1. Shipping and driving items to Canada from the US that require US export permit.

I have forwarded your comment to the moderators.

Not sure who you have dealt with here in Canada, but maybe if you actually picked up the phone and called Rick at ATR he will tell you like it is, not "maybe this or possibly that". He is always great to deal with as is clearly the case with his many many happy customers whoa re here on CGN. If you want a BAT action, tell him that is what you want and he will get it and he will give you an pretty accurate time for wait. Same with a stock. Talk is cheap and for you to com on here and admit that you were here only to hit a nerve is pretty low, but you go ahead and get your buddy in the US to bring in an action for you and not register it, see what happens.

sandyn, it seems like you know very little about imports / exports from the US. As Rick has said you need to comply with us export regulations and ITAR, I dont like it you dont like it, it sucks but guess what we have to deal with it.

for my latest mark4 scope it took 3.5 months for the export to get here, now considering this is from a major manufacturer not a small company like BAT which has no pull at all, a 6 - 9 month wait for a part is not at all uncommon or unreasonable when ordering from the us.

also who in Canada stocks BAT actions ? answer NOONE.

there is a simple reason for this when running a store you dont want high priced stock sitting around for months or years when the market for said stock item is extremely low which is why Rick and others special order them one at a time.

and if 6 months is not an option then i suggest you either find a Canadian action maker or have a reputable gun smith like Rick work their magic on a rem 700 action

Edit:

Also going down to the states to pick up a BAT action you would violate all of the following laws:
1. possession of a firearm in the US as you are a non resident
2. exporting a firearm with out a permit
3. failing to pay duty on said action
4. possession of an unregistered action in canada

and the 90 other little charges they would hit you with

Hey Rick,

just wondering if you were aware of the online applications for the IIC's. I believe it is called "Excol", Just google "excol" and "Canada" and it should come up.

I put in a request online for an IIC and they sent it to me in the mail 10 days later. Easy to use and you can also register your buisness with them to save from entering your info over and over.

You probably already know all this but either way it might help someone out.

I'm sure Rick could write an "Importing for Dummies" book...:)

Been using excol online for years.
Maybe it is just me, but it seems that IICs for smaller purchases don't take nearly as long as 1s for tons of stuff.
I have had an IIC back in about 10 days as you have, for a few items, but it seems as soon as you add a few 000s to the quantity or the value, things take longer.

I figured you must have known about it.

I tried applying for an IIC last year through the mail and I never did get anything back. Wish I would have known about Excol online then. I have another IIC that I just submitted last week with a few more zero's. Hope your wrong about the wait but I have a feeling your not.

Cheers
