Hello there fellow CGN'ers there is a nice rifle I am pondering of buying, pretty good deal as far as I am concerned. As for the glass the gun sports as stated above a Bausch and Lomb Elite 4000 6-24*40 A/O w/ sunshade. Now is this scope what would eventually become the 4200? Are they good..to me it looks awesome, now I would have to get used to the Adjustable Objective..so another q...just what the heck does that do?......

thanks

I have one. Excellent scope. The differance between to the 4000 & 4200 is only the raingaurd coating on the lens. The OA allows for paralax correction at differant distances.

Good scopes ....I had one but I sold it .....very good optics just didn't look right on the mountian riffle more for a varmitt gun where you got time to play with the adjustments

I have had a B&L 4200 6-24x40 on my 700 HB 22-250 for about 10 years and to be perfectly honest it is the most accurate scope/gun combo I own. Since I own a gun shop with access to any optics I am tempted to put newer optics on the gun but I also believe "if it ain't broke , don't fix it" and thus it remains mounted with the original optics. As noted above this is the earlier model of the current Bushnell 4200 and the main difference is the new model has "rainguard" coatings on the lenses. For what it is worth Bushnell just introduced the new 6-24x40 in a one inch tube that is several inches shorter, has side paralax and mildots.

Another plug for the Elite line of scopes. 4000/4200 are simply the best target scopes you can buy even if you had more money. You will love the resolution and clarity. Adjustments are repeatable if you plan on dialing up for LR shooting. Low light performance is equal to anything I have had the pleasure of looking through.

Only limit is 25min of internal elevation. For the most part, it really doesn't affect shooters as much as they would gripe, but if you plan on shooting a very long ways, you will need to shim the scope.

Otherwise, great scopes...

Thanks for the great replies, the only thing holding me back is the age of the rifle, that I will try to find out later today. The round count is around 2 - 300, and hasn't been used in a few years. He's asking $1000, I just want to make sure Im getting a good deal on it. I know he takes great care of his firearms so thats not an issue, rig looks perfect

I can sell you a like new 4000 4X16 - 50 matte scope for $385. Add in $75 for bases and rings. Throw that onto a brand new/used whatever and you will be close if not under that same number of $1000. Just look at what is offered on the exchange forum for price references.

prices for rifles have come down ALOT. If this is a SAKO or Wby or high grade Browning, sure live a little. If this is your run of the mill Remchestuger, you can do much better elsewhere new/used.

Plus a varmint rifle can look brand new on the outside and be fried on the inside. Really check out the throat area of the chamber as best you can.

For that type of coin, you better like what you buy...
