I know they are an older scope but would the suitability for a .222 ? It has a dot and fine crosshair. Quality etc

I think they're great scopes, very good glass. The negatives are that they are very long (might not be an issue for you) and they don't have a ton of elevation if you want to shoot way out there. But for a .222 out to say 400yds, they work fine.

nothing wrong with the Elite series. Guys at my club love them. As above, the 1in tube models have limited elevation. So get a set of burris zee rings with offset inserts to maximize elevation.

Thanx ......just going to put it on a 788 . The dot won't be much good for hunting but should suffice for pesting and targets.

For varmints about 12 power will probably be the best... you need a bench and solid bags for 24 power...

The only real difference between these and the Bushnell 4200 series was the addition of the rainguard coating. Irrelevant for target shooting. Mainly a hunting in inclement weather feature.

They are great scopes but have a horrendously small amount of elevation adjustment (24 MOA if memory serves). Now, if it happens to zero at a range that you're happy with for whacking gophers, woodchucks, or coyotes then you're set. But if it just so happens that it zeroes near the top of it's adjustment range and you want to be able to dial up and down, you may have to do some frigging around to makeit work to your satisfaction (ie a sloped base or Burris offset-rings).

I use the Burris Signature rings on my 4200's. With Federal 510 HV .22 rimfire ammo & +20 & -20 inserts we shoot metallic pigs at 200 meters.

I do similar on one of my 308's with that scope. If you set it up right, you can work from 100 to 1k. As BUM says, not a lot of adjustment, even less in the 8-32 over the 6-24. - dan
