After a long search I finally picked up a bayonet for my Jungle Carbine. The bayonet is made by RFI (Ishapore) and will not fit all the way onto the lug and lock in place. Neither the bayonet or rifle are damaged in any way. Do these bayonets only fit Ishapore rifles? I know very little about these so any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Can't say for sure, but they are supposed to fit. However, one thing I have noticed is that Ishapore uses a LOT of hand-finishing as compared to what the British arsenals were using. Could be that yours wasn't finished quite right: lug could be too long on the rifle, catch could be a smidge too long on the bayonet. See if you can borrow a bayonet from another collector, or get one to help with this. A quick fit will tell you which the problem is to be found upon, then you can cure it.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

Anyone offer some help?

Granted, it would be a lot easier if you were in Toronto, but this CANT be the only JC in the NWT!

Good luck, friend.

The slot on the bayonet pommel may be too short. The flast eliminators are usually British manufactured. If you can get a look at another No5 rifle and bayonet compare the two. Compare the bayo lug and the slot on the bayonet pommel for length and locking mechanism.

I suspect you have a reproduction bayonet (recent IMI/Atlanta Cutlery product), those are poorly made and often do not fit on rifles. A real Ishapore made No. 5 bayonet (a few bayonets were made in the 50/60's period) will have the Ishapore marking and the date below the marking.

Is this an original or repro Ishapore No5 bt? The repros had a high gloss blue vs parkerised finish.

Ishapore didn't make No.5s so that's not it. If they made your No.5 bayonet it's a replica and more likely, as others have suggested, they didn't get it quite right.
