Ok well My dad and I are going to be going out this fall/late summer for the first time black bear hunting. so what is the best/most effective way of hunting them? is there more then one way to hunt them besdies baiting? how do you recognise a good spot to put the bait where you think theb ears will come through?? how long should you be baiting the area before you acutally go out to hunt? do you use tree stands?? just sit down on the ground or......?? like I said we never done this befoe and dont have a clue. so for all you bear hunters. fill me in on all the need to knows.

also if anyone in my area would be willing to show/tell me some good spots to go that would be helpful.

thanks.
Kyle.

oh lol, then how do you hunt them? I just assumed you you could bait them. i suppose you shouldnt assume anything though right.

just calling or...... drive around untill you see one by the road???

Please, for the love of Jebus, Buddah, allah and the Great Pumpkin:

READ THE REGS~!

Please don't become a typical hunting store know-nothing employee!

EDIT: a bigger question, as Mr. Bartell has asked, IS HOW DID YOU GET HIRED? (not that it's a big surpise in this town, there is a good reason why I don't shop here)

I have never been big game hunting in my life. only small game. and I moved here from ontario about 7 months ago so Im still learning things. Ive only been ther one day guys. dont worry, I will learn things. and thats why the part timers arnt alone in the store. Not really my job right now to deal with people untill I learn things more. If I dont know something i just asked the othere guy. I wont BS you. If I dont know something I wont BS my way through the convo just to get you out the door. I'll go ask someone.

But enough about me. so how do you hunt bear in BC? just call em or....?

spot & stalk

cruise logging roads in a truck and use binoculars to glass clear cuts & grassy roads

that is the highest percentage hunt

In May cruise the logging roads looking for bear doo doo, when you find a good prospect road come back later and go for a nice quiet into wind walk sometime after 3 in the afternoon. You might just spot yogi munching on grass on the side of the road.
good luck

alright well this will work out nicely as my father is disabled so not having to go walkin in the bush or anything is good. the spring season ends on june 15. think theres time to go out this spring or wait till August for the fall hunt?

Just to chime in and get back at the topic, bears can be habitual. They tend to take the same route as they did the day before. If you come around a corner at 4 O'clock, and there's a bear there that scampers into the bush, then come back the next day at 3, setup downwind, and wait for him.

Hahahahaha.......yes lots of time. Hell even if you only get out on weekends it gives you 3weekends still to go

LoL yes I know there is still "time" I meant since it's coming up on the end of the season is it really even worth going out or would the hunting be much better in the fall.

bears and chopperhead

Chopperhead, I can't believe you can't find a bear in Prince George...
Do you even have a licence to hunt in BC?? Jeez have you even read the friggin' regs??? If you did you would see that its ILLEGAL to hunt bears with bait. If you can't read the regs and stay on top of the laws then stay home and watch Bugs Bunny and that stupid Roadrunner. I see big bears here on a regular basis probably because I don't actively hunt them anymore. PG is infested with bears by the way.....
