hey folks. my uncle from Sask has offered to take me hunting with him near Meadow Lake for deer, bear, pheasent and geese. he's going to line up the dates and such. but i need to know what i need along the lines of licences and how i obtain them. i'll do a google seach in a minute, but i figured i could come straight to the source here. any tips and advice for a mtn boy heading for the prairies?

You should contact the Sask DNR, most likely on the net will get it.
When you get all the costs, you may change your mind.

Wildlife Hab. cert.....$10.79
Game bird.........$56.91
deer...........$137.38
Bear...........$53.97
Not sure about cost of migratory bird lic. this year. Hope this helps.

Gotta watch the "resident hunters only" zones and seasons.

There are a lot of them, and you don't have to have gone to law school, to keep it all sorted out, but I think it would help...
Best bet is to dig into the regs, carefully.

Would make for a poor experience, in my mind, if the fishcops get you for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Cheers
Trev

Elmer's better looking then me...Ben.....One of the very few that I look up to!!
For the BC boy...Ducks, Geese and Deer are very plentiful most places, and quite do-able on your own, bear, etc. you may want an outfitter....Ben

i'll be hunting with my uncle and his friend on their land. both are locals to Meadow Lake. my uncle has seen a bunch of bear and some big deer on his land, and his buddy and a him are the only hunters allowed on 2 neighbouring farms for ducks and geese. i'm really looking forward to it.

out of province can hunt whitetail deer only..no mulies.

I looked into it last year when I was planning on going to Sask to hunt with my uncles and cousins.

Deer season is generally well after bird season ends. Non-resident whitetails is usually the middle week of the three-week resident deer season.

From what I remember. My uncles/cousins hunt duck and geese around Thanksgiving and when I was going to go out there for deer last year, had to be in late Nov. I decided to stick around AB and fill my cheap tags instead of paying $150 for a single Sask WT deer.
The area my family hunts is southern Sask and from what I remember they have a cronic wasting problem with their deer. Another reason to stick to my normal zone in AB.

There are no deer in Saskatchewan. :D They packed up and left for Alberta with the rest of the locals during the 80s. I suggest you rethink your hunting trip. ;)

thanks for all the info guys. for 130 bucks, i'll let you keep you deer. i can buy a deer tag here for 15 bucks and spend the rest on gas. :D

pretty sure we're going ahead with bear and geese though.

Thats what we like to hear, I hope they make the whitetails draw in saskatchewan for non sask residents, its ridiculous free rain on our trophy herd......

I dont think the few Canadian residents make any dent in the whitetail herd in Sask or Non residents in our Northern zones.
If anything is goint to hurt our hunting its us the sask residents tresspassing or doing stupid stuff on others property which will cause great hunting land to be Posted.
