Heyall!!

With any luck I am moving out east to fly this season. I have put in my resume with a lot of hunting and fishing lodges. As part of my motivation for moving out, I would love to do some moose and deer hunting. The deer on the island are realy small and an elk tag is next to impossible to get.

For me to hunt in ontario what hoops will i have to jump through? Do I need to change my mailing adress ect ect? I will only be there for about 6 months (break up to freeze up).

How about moose hunting? .30-06 with a 200 grain bullet do? Or should I look to a bigger gun??

Moose - 30/06 with 180's is fine, deer too.

You have to be a resident for 6 months before you can get a residents licence, and you need a licence from another province.

RePete.

Depending on where you will be located, there are Gun Nutz all over Ontario and most of us would welcome a fellow CGNer for a hunt.......but like RePete says, you are going to be buying a non-resident licence. Which is not all that expensive for deer at $175 but is a bit steep for moose at $350 (2005 prices, 2006 may be different....)

Northern Ontario is a different world than the South... People are just as strange but the scenery is better.
If you get yourself hooked up with an Ontario address at leat 6 months ahead of time you will be good to go... know what I mean?

Easy there BIGREDD, no strange people here in Timmins.

There are no single sheep in Timmins.....

Seriously the North is a different world than Southern Ontario... I think that the people are freindlier and their attitude is more rural. They dislike the southerners as much as the westerners do......

"Far to the North
Where the moose go forth
And there's little but frozen sod,
All the locals stink,
And are given to drink,
And make mock of the southerner's God."

For a non-resident to hunt moose or bear in Ontario, you have to book with an outfitter. That shouldn't be a problem for you though, as these are the guys you will be working for. You don't need to book with an outfitter to hunt deer. Good luck with getting the job.
