So, I just passed my CORE course, but now I need to do my exam.

I'm not asking for specific questions, or answers to them, but does anyone know what kind of questions are a big focus on the exam? I know the exam has changed since new sections were added to the CORE, thus why im asking.

Is a large part of it species ID? Indigenous related questions? Is the test difficult for a late starter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Primarily species identification and safety are the primary focus of the questions.

Test is not difficult at all and I do recall you can have your CORE Course book on hand with you to reference from??

You'll have no problem at all.

Iirc it mostly focuses on animal ID, firearms/hunting safety, and first aid/survival skills.

If you've recently taken the course, or even just read the manual, and you've got a background that includes some first aid /survival skills (I was in scouting for my entire childhood/teenage years as an example) then I would focus on studying the animal ID stuff, the rest was easy.

I found a previous edition of the manual online, read it, then challenged the test. Passed first try, challenging the test was only $11 or so.

Pudddlers, dabblers and divers.
What is the bullet dia. of a Winchester 270 ...
Is it safe to shoot a road sign if there is nobody around?
Those sorts of questions...
Then again read the book a couple of times and you should be good to go.

The questions are pretty easy at least in Ontario, My son took the test at age 12 and got 90% probably would have got 100% except he fell asleep during most of the class.

Holy, thanks for the quick responses everyone! I've done first-aid stuff before, and I have dabbled in survival/bushcraft haha. So yeah, general consensus is most of it is just common sense with firearms and safety, along with wildlife knowledge? I'll keep re-reading the species identification until i get that hammered down.

Thanks all!

Between my scouting background and the fact that I already had a PAL when I got my core (which allows you to skip the firearms practical test portion, but there will still be firearms related questions on the exam), the only part I actually would have needed to study to pass was the animal ID part. I read the whole book to make sure, but in hindsight I really didn't need to. YMMV of course.

They don't let you use your PAL as an exemption anymore haha. Either way, i should be okay. Got 90-100% on all my online quizzes.

wtf?

Why in the word would indigenous issues enter into it?

Safety, safety, safety.

Some people get bent out of shape worrying about animal I.D.

It makes sense to be able to tell the difference between a mallard and a pintail and most certainly a snow goose and a swan.

How do you tell a ruffed gruse from a spruce grouse from a blue grouse from a ptarmigan?

in the CORE course they now go over indigenous issues and traditions and stuff like that.

Oh yeah? So even if you have a PAL you still need to do the firearms practical test? Any idea when this changed? I got my CORE like 7 years ago at this point.

Yeah, they can only let you be exempt from that part IF you can show your actual CFSC paperwork, which I don't have due to getting it so long ago, and assuming my RPAL would be enough haha.

But I sent my paperwork to the gubbermint! I wonder if SilverCore keeps that stuff on file for their records... I guess it doesn't matter as I have a hunting license mind you...

Right?!?
I got mine at my gun club, but they don't have it, so i have to fill out a PIRF form to see if i can get it from said gubbermint haha.

The core when I did it was pretty simple.
Few firearms questions.
How to cross a fence with a gun
Different ducks
How to count points on a rack
I think a question about identifying a cub from a mature bear.

Was 12 or more years ago now. But do remember no one in the course failed.
