In case you missed the hype at the local site.... the grizzly draws are on-line now.

Wife and I both drew again, hopefully this year is a a lot more successful than last!

Recent article in Alberta Outdoorsmen alludes to a soon to be future reopening of grizzly hunts once again here in Alberta. Nice to see our neighbors doing exactly that. IIRC, even Wyoming very recently has a limited trophy grizzly season.

Thank you for your notice. I just checked my draw, woo hooo, I got the draw! Before NDP take over the province and destroy our grizzly hunting opportunity, I have a chance to chase my dream of hunting grizzlies.

Now the big problem is : where is the area 7-52! It is my second choice so I did not do any research for it.

Good luck to you - after about 10 years of putting in the draw in Alberta, I got nervous when they started talking about shutting the season and decided to put in for a zone near Swan Hills.

I put a ton of effort in and was successful - I shot one of the 6 bears taken in the last season in 2005.

Great hunt - good luck to you!

Yes, I just found that also. Wow, It is so close to Yukon. So I might be shooting a Yukon bear. It is exciting. Now I have to google map the area and talk to anyone who knows the area.

Will need to work more time to get money for the trip. Will order Matrix bullets soon, they are 270 grn Rebated Boat Tail. Ted used it for a grizzly and C-fmi has been singing praise to 270 grn. So I will give them a try.

I worked in the area between Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge 20 years ago (south end of the zone). There was quite a few roads run in for oil and gas exploration at the time. There was a very healthy population of Grizz there at the time.

I would give that south end a real hard look.

Best of luck with your hunt, looking forward to the story and pictures of course..
First time grizzly hunt to a brand new area, will try my best to recruit my good buddy to be a driver. Hope I win the game, not the other way. So I can tell the story instead of I am in the story.

I did. That was my first choice but it did not work out. 23:1 odd against me. I have a thought to find a job at Fort St John, so grizzly hunting at that area will let me know more of the oil city. But I am now sent to 7-52 as second choice. Google map can't show any road, I will have to buy back road maps for the area. So far, I am totally blind, it is NEW to me for everything. First time to Norther BC. first time grizzly hunting, and probably the only guy can handle a gun in my group. My good buddy,if he goes, he can only cook and drive.

Hey elker. Check huntingbc forum for tips on hunting that area. I believe the best access is by jet boat along the Kechika. $$ in jet boat fuel to get transported up there. If you know anyone going to the Wild Sheep Society AGM they can give you names of transporters on the rivers in that area. I think sheep hunters may be able to give you some advise on the area.

Sorry Elker - just looked quick and didn't catch that. Hmm.

I have only personally been on the very north end of that zone - enroute to the Yukon.

I do know a couple of friends who have hunted Goats in the Cassiar's just to the west there - I will ask them if they have any leads.

Also, get in touch with the biologist for the area - they are usually very helpful. I would also consider talking to any RCMP detachment - believe it or not, those guys get a great deal of calls relating to bear/human conflicts in the remote areas. I can't remember if there is a detachment at Lower Post or not.

I just did a quick look on google - the imagery up there is low res and out of date (Looks like SPOT imagery from 2004) - there are a few roads there.

If you do the research ahead of time - you should be in business. and get that buddy shooting some.

Absolutely breathtaking part of Canada - good luck and post up the pics!

Elker,

why your buddy cant bring and shoot a gun? no black bears tags?

i wish you good luck i know for a fact that southern Yukon has a lot of bears and there is study done by Yukon and BC ENVT offices maye something to dig in too.

all the best.
