Paying for antlers would be illegal..might result in criminal charge of ''trafficking in wildlife parts''.
Someones going to ask, so let me be the first, what is it you want them for?

Since when has it been illegal to sell a legally taken trophy? I may be surprised here by some archaic legislation, but this would definitely be news to me.

It is perfectly lawful in BC to buy and sell sheds.

For trophy I also do not believe there are any issues but will not pretend to know completely without researching the answer. I believe it is lawful at all times but it is prudent for the seller to provide the buyer with proof that the animal was harvested legally in the event that the buyer has to deal with a CO. That is more necessary for someone buying antlers from a fresh kill, rather than something that has been handled by a taxidermist.

I just saw a link to Kijiji when googling the subject and there is tons of antlers, including full taxidermy, sheds, and artworks using antlers.

I think there "might" be a royalty to pay similar to selling furs but I'm guessing here.
I do know that in the case of selling a trophy mount the species licence it was taken under must accompany the mount, at least that is my understanding anyways.

Years ago, our local zoo had some sort of display going on and there were a bunch of heads and mounts
donated for display for the occasion.
The CO's seized those that didn't have any sort of paper work.
The chit hit the fan over this.
I suggest drilling a hole in the mounting hardware and stuff your licence and cancelled species tag in there.
Years from now someone may thank you for it.

I too believed it to be against the law to sell these sheds.
I also believe it is illegal to take them out of the bush.
Have times changed or have the CO's got better fish to fry?

Wow so selling antlers is in the grey area so how about a fellow cgn just gives it to another cgn fellow for free and gets a pack of beer?

I have many times seen trucks parked in this area with a big sign displaying: "We Buy Antlers"

There is no law in BC against selling sheds or legally taken antlers, period.

Horns [sheep, eg] are an entirely different thing, and require more documentation, and must be marked by the ministry

Dave.

I use to guide tourist on horse back in AB. most the guest probably though i was nuts returning with elk antlers draped all over my horse. Boss collected and sold them to artist making furniture. Sold them by the semi load every so-many years. It seemed legit??? I never Questioned it??

no tag required for deer antlers. you can give them to your dog or to a friend to rattle. too much paranona. maybe we need antler police.

Back when I lived in Manitoba, I found and sold deer, elk & moose shed antlers. But they had to be sheds. Cut-offs had to have an tag attached. Could very well be different in BC. I been told pet stores sell them cut up for big $ for doggy chews. Maybe you should go for a walk in the spring and find your own. Shouldn't take too many to make-up a years supply.

Well I used to get them from a source but that source dried up and I thought maybe a fellow cgn would give me some but so far no one has stepped forward and I want to put the antlers in his xmas stockings : ) yes he has his own stockings.

You can legally sell the trophies as well. When the ORIGINAL seller sells for the first time, he must submit a Royalty to the province. (any subsequent sellers do not. Royalty is one time only) The license under which that trophy was taken must then accompany it during the course of transfer to any subsequent person and should be kept in the buyers records. That is what the law directs for sale within BC. Export outside BC and internationally then there are more legalities like further inspection, documentation and CITES permits etc. But for sale in BC that is the process. But just antlers/sheds nobody cares. There are guys who advertize to buy them on the side of the road, in newspapers classifieds etc. If that was an issue the CO's would have cracked down and laws would be specific for that. If someone knows more or can add detail go ahead and do so. Cheers
