Got back from our moose hunt around fort saint john and can say that it was a very good trip. For our company of three we have got two young moose bulls in three days of hunting. Saw a lot of other wildlife as well. Will try to post some pictures.

These two young bull moose were encountered during our scouting trip on 14th of August. Just a day before the opening. Both of them were taken by other hunters on the following day.

This is my little moosey:

And my friend had some luck too:

I also want to say a big thank you to my friends Vladimir, Eugene and Doug who shared all the difficulties and joy of this hunt and withount whom this trip would not be possible at all. Separate thank to Doug for his help and for sharing his experience and knowledge with us, green hunters.

Congrats guys. Now I really cant wait to leave to moose camp this season October 3.

Archery season starts tommorow for us. But I will be too busy with work to get out bowhunting the elk. The only other thing I'm pumped for this season is having the opportunity with a Mossy Oak film crew to video my mulie hunt. Hopefully I can get enough time off work to do this. Just a couple of days would be great.

Still can't believe you guys don't have to wear Blaze! And antlers are still in velvet! Strictly verboten in Ontario. We still have to wait until thanksgiving in most areas. Good shooting!!! JITC

Glad your hunt was a big success! You guys made out very well!

Great pics!

I am glad you guys did well. Up to now the news coming out of North-East BC has been less than encouraging.

I recently got back from a moose trip - we were between Chetwynd and Dawnson and there were very few moose taken out of there. There were maybe 40-50 camps in all and only 2 moose taken. Very few numbers. Was told this was because of the excessive ammount of snow in the winter but mainly the ticks in the spring.

I was also told that in the Hudson's hope camp; out of 82 camps there were only 2 moose taken.

Oh well, I am sure numbers will be back up soon.

Thanks for sharing your pics. You guys ate well too. The fellow on the left in the last pictures looks like he's not feeling any pain eh! ;):D

its not just up there CZ we are not seeing moose in region 6 like we should be either, but yes the 5 feet of snow in 1 night and then continuos snowfall right until may didnt help either, we dont generaly have a tick problem here but the trains and roads played havoc on the population last winter, my little brother just stopped in from guide camp he spent all of july and most of august building camps and trails for guiding and was pretty disapointed in this area , said they may have seen a half dozen cows only a couple with calves and 2 bulls, the CORE examiner had told the class that they were even pondering closing moose season in region 6 for a while (how true that is I dont know) but it may turn out not to be a bad idea if we get another bad winter, even the deer are way down, normaly you can see 20-30 deer in a field thats been hayed and none yet, we started back to work late this year due to rainfall and wet ground but have only seen 3 moose and 1 was on the highway

but anyhow congrats to the guys that do get moose or have gotten them already :)

in regards to closing down your moose season, I know that here in saskatchewan we always were able to shoot calves and for myself that was perfect. We really enjoy the meat. They closed it to bulls only for a few years and this proved to be quite a success (at least in the area's I hunt) Seems to be alot more moose numbers and alot of young bulls. It sucks to not be able to hunt for a couple years but it does help. hope your herd comes back, my 2 cents :)
