BC Question

BC matters at any distance.

300 yards with rifle zeroed at 150 yards shooting a 180 grain bullet launched at 2800 fps

A bullet with BC of .480 (Hornady 180 gr SST) will drop ~11 inches at 300 while a blunt old slug (Hornady 180 gr Round Nose) with a BC of .241- will drop ~13.2".

Under field conditions that 2.2 " difference means very little.

Consider that drop is not as important as wind drift. What is the diff in wind drift? Then add in how that affects the mechanical accuracy of the rifle. If you want to keep inside a 6" kill zone, it matters.

With respect to competition shooting, that much difference would drop you several points and pretty much send you to the bottom half of the grid.

With a muzzle velocity of 3000fps for both, and a 10mph crosswind, the wind drifts at 300 yards are 6.1" and 13.5" for a difference of 7.4".Data taken from the Hornady Handbook, third edition.
