BC steel lips are garbage

I ordered 3 Tac-Inc's T125 mags today.
SUPER people to deal with!
Very down to earth and friendly.
They explained to me how to adjust them, clean them (I didn't even ask), how long shipping takes and to be careful "you don't loose the allen keys included, because there tucked inside the packing material".
So far so good.......:D

I got a used bc steel lip magazine from the EE. just to see what they're like. I loaded up 25rds of mini-mags and it shot fine. I'll have to wait and see how long that'll last

Got two used BC steel lips (that look in very good condition). Both are jamming; about 1/6 to 1/10 rounds get stuck about 5mm below the lips, particularly on slow fire. When doing rapid fire, it's much better, the upward momentum seems to help. What can i do before throwing them in the garbage ? changing ammo type ? is there any way of lubing the inside of these mags ? would that be a good idea ? Thx

no one reads the sticky obviously on tuning up BC steel lips mags...

I had to file some metal away from all 4 of my current BC steel lips mags to get them to feed properly and now they all function 100% with my tacsol barrel.

I firmly believe that it is people with tight match chambers aftermarket barrels that have the majority of problems with the butler creek mags due to tighter tolerences.

Seems to be ammo type that can jam them up, I tried this with 4 brand new BC Steel Lips last year and about 4-5 different types of ammo. Round nose, hollow point etc. The best and I always say this was CCI. Clean the lips after use and once in awhile the mag itself in boiling water with dishsoap, appearently simple green works well. Be sure to rinse well with more boiling water and this will help it dry faster, and blow it out with compressed air, personally I leave mine in the sun for a bit and that seems to work well.

A couple weeks ago I threw away a BC steel lips mag after about 650 rounds because the plastic that housed the steel portion of the magazine developed stress fractures all around and eventually the damn thing stopped feeding.

I had a BC mag that did that... right after I cleaned the lips with bore solvent.

There.s a reason why they say to clean the lips with soap and water.

As an experiment I swabbed the whole mag with solvent. It literally exploded into plastic shards. Don't believe me, try it yourself with some Hoppes. For even more spectacular results, try some disc brake cleaner.

Make sure your rifle and hands are free of all excess solvent before going anywhere near a BC mag. Dont wipe them with rags that you have wiped your rifle with. Don't store the mags near cleaning supplies.

Great mags

So we have you to thank....I "shoulda" known. ;)

When I phoned for mine, and said I was from Canada, they said "You want the 10/22 mags, right?". Great service - got them in under a week. :)

Still tempted to get some BC steel-lips. ;)
