I have a vz 58 with bolt catch and mag release looks like this

Searched how to take mag release apart on youtube found two videos where the knob moves back and then moves threw the hole. Mine looks a bit different then the ones in the video and it doesn't move at all... So that's my problem.

Note the round-headed pin between the mag catch and the bolt catch. It's a split pin that needs to be pushed out from the inside. Once it's out, the crosswise pin can be removed so you can install your new parts.

Well put. I use a 1/8 punch when working on my VZ; the small investment has already paid for itself. *please note, that an SKS punch won't cut it ;)*
If visuals are needed, check out what the horses mouth is offering:

I invested in a proper 1/8" punch for the SKS long ago as well, never use that dinky one in the cleaning kit. It will make a big difference getting the proper tools.

You say it needs to be pushed out from the inside but that video shows it being pushed in from the outside, also that round headed pin is what I described as a knob and it doesn't move at all. Not back not forward not up not down nor left or right.

What I do is tap it from the underside of the reciever with your 1/8" punch to get the head of the pin to pop up in the reciever enough to get a small thin flat blade screw driver under it and gently wiggle pry it up enough to get a set of needle nose pliers to grab the head of the "nail". Don't worry you won't damage the thing it's pretty hard steel. Works well, just make sure you insert the flat side of the head of the pin facing the left of the reciever (as you would look at it in firing position)when putting it back in. If you think this is hard, try removing the safety and cross pin, holy $h@tt that's frustrating.

Call it whatever you want, but it's a pin that must come out from inside. I can't see the video from here so I can't comment on it.

The split pin has a hook on one leg. It needs to be pushed towards the center of the pin while you're pushing down.

Can you post a pic of your receiver, inside and bottom?

Thats because the pin in the first video is in backwards, the head is shown on the underside of the reciever but that's not how it's supposed to go in, it should go in from the inside of the reciever

Aaaaaahhhh spreading misinformation! Of no consequence no harm no foul, just disappointed when I ran into a small obstacle. Knew I wasn't going to get it done in the last 10 min before bed last night and also knew that I would have to wait until this morning to finish up. The video resolution wasn't high enough and the parts weren't really shown properly in the video. Too much black on black not enough time spent showing parts so I couldnt see why exactly his rifle was disassembling differently then mine.

You've got it backwards.

It should be installed just as pictured in the OP's first pic. From the outside of the receiver.

It will work both ways, but it can not be dislodged or the legs of the pin damaged if installed from outside.

I have a brand new rifle that looked as pictured in the op and was fairly confident that the factory should provide their product as intended but was tired and not sure if I had a different model or if my rifle was weird or if the video was weird. Posted on cgn last night, knew a solution would arrive by today which was exactly the case. Alls well that ends wells. Mmhm

Great to hear it all worked out.

I definitely agree that a proper 1/8 punch makes all the difference when working on these lovely Reds. They deserve proper tools!

BTW, I had some troubles with those custom parts - see "CSA VZ58 and CZ-858 are not the same"

They are slightly different, yes. Most products have notes that they may require some fitting to work with the VZ or offer no guarantee that they will work with the VZ.

My tactical bolt release was some amazing fun for the half hour it worked (different brand noted to be of a poor quality batch). One day I will buy another one.
