So as some of you may or may not know,I have taken over from Jeff H. as the Precision Rifle director for the BCRA.
We had a meeting recently and have made a few changes to try and bring back some of the shooters who left.
I'm also looking for a little direction from you shooters that have shot this match in the last couple or years.

First off I have decided to break things up as follows. There will be two seperate divisions.

#1 is Tactical Rifle.
This will be pretty much the same as we had it last year.
Issue type rifles..308/.223 only.17 lbs max.must have a magazine.Min trigger pull 3 lbs.Optics of no more than 20x.There will be a strict NO GAMING IT policy in this divison. If you choose not to follow the rules while shooting this match(IE shooting from a different position than the one prescribed),I will choose to give you a zero you for that portion of the shoot.
Within those there will be prizes given for top military, police and civilian.Probably plaques.

Division #2 will be OPEN
This will be anything else anyone wants to shoot and anyone who doesn't fit into Tactical.Target rifles,40lb bench rest guns, zap guns, potato guns...whatever blows your hair back within safety of course.Any scope and any caliber other than magnums and the big .50.There will be prizes in this catagory too although not as many as in tactical because it doesn't have to be broken up into sub divisions.

Now for those of you that have shot the match before you will be well aware of the props that we have used in the past. There are folks who don't like using the props and would like to see them gone.I personally think they add an element of fun and challenge to the match that we don't get anywhere else, but I'll leave it up to you guys as to whether we keep them or not.

Other than that feel free to ask any questions you might have, ideas and or suggestions.I'm starting to put the program together for the summer,so sooner is better.

I'll donate chairs

I recall, last year in lieu of chairs they used people's shoulders--my shoulder was used by V-Bull and his M-24 clone, the ringing in my ears stopped a few weeks ago.:D

but seriously, thank you for taking the lead to organize this event and let me know if there is anything I could assist with.

Also that is the final word on trigger pull? last years written specifications were:"Must be of a type that is in general use by Police or Military units. Max Weight is 17 lbs., with all attachments, (scope, sling, bi-pod). Trigger weight 2 1/2 lbs minimum. Barrel length max 27 inches. Action must have internal or external magazine. Calibre must be .223 or .308 or NATO equivalent. Muzzle suppressor not allowed except M-14. No muzzle brakes. "

please make sure you post date and venue when its sorted out, i'm sure a few of us CGNers would like to come shoot or just watch

The 2005 shoot was a hoot and I intend to be there for this years as well.... they only part I didn't like was not having a gasmask that fit and didn't fog all to hell. I would sugest that if masks are to be used that people know ahead of time so that they can bring there own. BTW... the circles of doom sucked, but only because I was stupid and made a slight miss adjustment to my scope on the third one. Totally my fault and fun to ##### about after the fact ;)

question: Optics

If you say max 20x, and you have a NF 22x is that "open" or do you just say it cannot be set to more than 20x or disqualify for that match? If the firearm otherwise qualifies as "tactical" I would argue for the latter position on the basis that lots of scopes are just a little over (Nightforce, USO, S&B).

"The only change I would make is to allow up to a 4" sunshade."
add muzzle breaks as well as it seems more military's are using Muzzle breaks on there rifles now than in the past

I think the props were good, except I don;t see the point in prescribing the actual method you shoot, provided you deal with the obstacle presented and only use the props which are supplied.

Thanks for commiting the time to keep the match going.

+1.

Would allow muzzle brakes as well.A lot of the Semi-autos are using some type of muzzle device, as well as more bolt actions these days.

dcra rules only mention "precision rifle"

Since it was brought up, DCRA rules don't have a "tactical" section but "precison rifle" is part of the Service rifle rulebook. I can see why we would have different rules, and support Longshot's ideas 100%

just for discussion, -------
----excerpt from dcra rules

3.01 Firearms PRECISION RIFLE - Any rifle with any sight and in any caliber that meets range regulations. The trigger pull specifications must meet these rules.

3.02 Triggers

(c) Precision Rifle - shall not be less than 1 Kg

3.03 Sights

(1) Any sight may be used on Service Rifles or Precision Rifles.

(a) The sight may be adjusted in any manner throughout the conduct of any match.
(b) There will be NO allowance of time extensions for the adjustment of the sights.
(c) A sun/rain shade may be attached to the sight.

3.04 Ammunition
1. All ammunition used in a competition must be supplied by the competitor, must be safe for use in his firearm and must meet with specific range regulations.
2. A competitor must submit his ammunition for inspection and testing whenever required. ROs are authorized to check the type of ammunition any competitor is using and, on occasion, magazines will be verified to ensure they hold the correct number of rounds as specified in the match conditions.

[and it goes on and on]

Dates are June 24 + 25.
There will be a zeroing day on the 23rd.The zeroing day will cost $10 because we still have to pay sentries and will have a start time and end time.If you miss zeroing at a certain distance, you will be out of luck.If you can't make it in the morning,I would suggest getting zeros from 50m -300m at a local range and then getting the longer ones at Volkes in the afternoon. This is a heads up.Book that day off work, trade a shift, whatever.Make it happen.

Ah yes.I forgot to mention that I have decided to allow sunshades up to 4 inches in honour of skullboy and his incesant whining about it for the last 4 years. ;)

And I'm not sure why I said 3 lbs trigger pull.I must have been thinking about a shoot I'm going to down to in Arizona in march.Minimum trigger pull will be left at 2.5 lbs.

I will allow muzzle breaks on M-14's or AR-15's but NOT on anything else.I want to stay away from all the dial in breaks.Besides you don't need one anyways.

I think about variable power optics we can allow scopes of higher power, but what we will do is tape them off at 20x max and if one of the range staff checks and its turned up you will get a zero for that stage. No questions asked.

Part of the idea of different positions is getting people to shoot in ways they might never do by themselves as well as trying to keep things on a level playing field.

After last year I was thinking that the AR might be a good way to go on the first day or the whole shoot for that matter as it only goes to 600m.

Barry shoots very well with his AR-10,so I don't see why you couldn't do it with a heavy barreled 15 with good match bullets.

This match is not golf. You can't open your bag and pull out a different system for different serials or days. One gun only. That's it.;)
