BC Tactical scout mount and LER scope on my SKS

Hello fellow CGNers,
I've looked through the optics sticky and did a search of the red rifle section, but haven't really been able to come up with the info I'm looking for. My questions to you are as follows:
Do any of you have a long eye relief scope mounted on your SKS using the BC Tactical scout mount? Is it long enough to mount a LER scope on, or is it only really suitable for red dot sights?
If you do have such a set up, could I see some photos? Does your scope impede disassembly for cleaning purposes? Can you still use stripper clips?

I've already gone ahead and ordered a scope, and sent an email asking BC Tactical directly about this, but haven't heard back from them yet. In any case, I am interested to hear/see from others on this forum about how well this setup works for them.

Thanks

I had a scope mounted to my SKS for a while, seemed like a good idea at first but i ended up taking it off for a few reasons.

1. Unless you drill and tap it wont hold zero, i bought the type that replaces the bolt cover with one that has rails on it and even with the little set screw things on the side it would still move around on me.
2. I was shooting corrosive which required thorough cleaning after each use, to get the rifle apart you had to take the bolt cover/scope off every time which messed up the zero
3. I ended up liking the original look of the SKS and found that the aftermarket parts really took away from the rifle.

And another note...i bought the SKS and put the scope on in an effort to get a cheap, modern looking scoped rifle but found its better to just use the rifle as it was designed. I put a tapco stock on it, bi-pod, etc. This also made it harder to take apart. As it is the SKS disassembles very easily for cleaning but once you pack it full of after market stuff it makes it more of a pain to take apart. I spent almost $800 including the gun to dress up my sks into a modern rifle and eventually realized it wouldnt do what i wanted...so i sold it and bought a modern rifle and put a scope on. Just recently i bought another SKS and i plan to keep it just how it is.

But if you want to give it a try i say go for it...its your rifle and i had fun putting it together...just was not happy with the result.

I looked up the mount your talking about, different from the type i had so maybe it would work better, looks like you would be able to get the bold assembly out without any trouble. From looking at the video it appears to be way to short to mount a standard scope, probably going to be limited to shorter optics...heres a install vid i found on youtube that gives you a pretty good look at it.

KNO3-,
Thanks for your input. I am steering away from the receiver end scope mounts because of the issues you mentioned. That's why I am looking at going the scout scope route. The mount from BC tactical does look a little short. That's why I asked if anyone on here uses one, especially for a scope mount, rather than as a red dot mount. I've already put a cheap dragunov style stock on it, and the increased LOP makes it feel a lot more comfortable, and it's got an adjustable cheek rest to lift my face up high enough for a relatively high mounted scope. Anyhow, anyone else have some input for me?

Ok:

1.) BC tactical mount will hold zero. Dust covers / gas tube rail mounts do not.

2.) I don't think you'll have enough rail for it, but you'd have to see for yourself.

3.) Will stripper clips work? Not with a scope. My vortex red dot allows for stripper clips. Barely - but it works.

4.) Your brass will hammer te scope. Violently. Not so good for longevity. The ejector port mod can be done, with reports of success from other members here.

5.) IF you are dead set on adding a scope to your SKS, then look at the SKS optics sticky and research a proper drill and tap.

I encourage you to seriously look at what you want out of your rifle before proceeding.
It could save you a lot of money. It's great for it's purpose of hitting man sized targets at average combat distances, being rugged an reliable and simple - but it is not an inherently accurate platform / precision rifle.

I went with the BC TACTICAL mount with a vortex red dot. It's held zero but I need to do the ejection port mod, as the spent brass (steel) is hammering the optic.

I'm sure you've read all this before, but I figured I'd pass it on.

Thanks for your input Ghost,
I've got a LER scope ordered up already. What I really wanted it for was to have a bit of magnification for deer hunting at relatively close range (ideally sub-100yds). A couple hundred dollars in accessories for a rifle I already have seemed like a better deal than buying another rifle for deer hunting. I have no aspirations of bagging deer at long ranges, so maybe a red dot would suffice.
Cheers
