BCG problem

I was out shooting my Stag 10 today and ran into a problem with the BCG.
The cotter pin that holds the firing pin in appears to have backed out of it's hole
and caused the BCG to jam in the closed, locked up position.
Has anyone had this problem?
The only thing I can think of doing is drilling out the cotter pin to release the BCG.
Maybe a strong magnet to pull the pin back into it's hole?:confused:
Any suggestions?
 
Why do you think it's the cotter pin? It's impossible for the pin to back out while it's inside the receiver as the receiver wall prevents that.

I get what you're saying.
That is the first thing that came to mind because the "legs" of the pin is barely visible on the outside.
What else would stop the bolt from opening and moving?
 
Yea the cotter pin won't jam the rifle open. There is way to much spring tension for that. I had a few jams like yours that caused my bolt to jam on closed, because of my own stupidity with a couple hot loads that I didn't think were hot. I ended up just mortaring the gun until the bolt opened and the round fell out.
 
Had similar problem with my BCG slamming shut on a boresighter. I was able to pull on the charging handle while gently prying on the BCG with a screwdriver...ripped the battery cover off the boresighter. Then used a 1/4 x 3' brass rod I got at Home Depot to pound out the boresighter. Wrapped a loop of electrical tape around the tip of the rod to keep it off the walls of the barrel. Also...sprayed a good dose of a thin penetrating oil "G96" down the bore and let it sit for a while before using the rod.
 
it's a fired round stuck in there? Collapse the stock, mortar the rifle and inspect the brass for a hint as to what went wrong.

Took your advice, mortared/pogoed rifle my and the stuck cartridge popped right out.
Looking at the cartridge and it has a trace of carbon on it. Probably just enough to cause a stick.
I'll need to keep the chamber clean when using this ammo.
