I figured I'd make a separate post about this so it doesn't get buried. If you guys want the chance to shoot some sub-MOA groups and don't hand-load, bite the bullet and get some Federal Gold Medal Match 168. The gun has a tight twist with 1:10 so heavier bullets will likely shoot well, who knows, maybe a heavier GMM at 175 grain might even do better. Another poster has run GMM 168 as well and had great results, all sub-MOA.
Gun has had approx 300 rounds through it until tonight, all milsurp Hirtenberger 147 from an IMI mag. I may also have the first confirmed BCL 102 kills as two nuisance beavers met their end tonight before I set up my half assed range
. The gun has shot well and the only issue thus far was a failure to feed the poly tipped Hornady A-Max, but I believe that was because the mag wasn't fully buried.
I was a bit rushed before dark so it was quick 3 round groups, ya I know I should be shooting 5's and I will update when I do. The Hornady group was done by my dad and he said he wasn't 100% confident in his trigger pulls, it was low light even with the 50mm objective and his eyesight isn't the best. I am also a novice to mediocre shooter but I was pretty confident in my pulls with the GMM... the Hirtenberger I have shot better.
When you take the distance into account (120 yards) and the centers were a index finger width, the gun shot the GMM about 0.5 MOA. This is early days and it's possible the group would open up or I lucked out, but all these rounds were fired within a minute of each other with no barrel cool down. I'm cautiously optimistic and saying is the gun has some serious potential with good ammunition. Keep in mind that shooting sub-MOA with over the counter ammo in an AR10 is no "given", watch Nutnfancy put DPMS and Armalite pattern 308's through their paces and when you take into account this gun is very reasonably priced, I have to say I'm tickled with it so far.
Range conditions - 16 Celsius, Windspeed - 0-5 kph
Distance - 120 yards
Right now gun just has a Lantac Dragon brake, Geissele Super Charging Handle, Magpul Moe + Grip, Zeiss 4-12x50 and a Vortex Mount.
1 group Hirt 147 Grain:
1 group Hornady Amax 168:
And Federal Gold Medal Match 168! Holes touching at 120 yards.
