Hey folks,
I thought I would post my first impressions of the MRX Bison. First off, it seems to be very good quality. There isn't a blemish on it, and it gives off the feel of a high quality firearm. It doesn't feel 7lbs, it feels lighter to me. Obviously it is short and handy, and points quick. I am mounting a burris fullfield II 2-7x32 on it which I think will compliment the rifle nicely. The bolt throw at 60 degrees is pretty neat, and the enlarged bolt handle is nice in the palm. The square handguard looks really good, and is small enough that its not really uncomfortable in the hand, but its not comfortable either. I would have prefered a rounded bottom to the handguard. The M-Lok slots are handy, and the side ones are removeable which I assume is for ease of mounting new accessories. I added a large cheek riser I had in my spare bits bin and cheek weld is perfect. I like that it came with magpul furniture and not some cheap stuff like the later gen BCL-102s had. The muzzle brake is just plain idiotic as its going to deafen you and anyone in a 50ft radius ear pro or not. I have a S&J nano linear comp on the way to solve that issue. SBR rifles really benefit from linear compensators in my experience. The nano will also shorten the OAL of the rifle by maybe a half inch. The magazine it comes with makes no sense to me, but whatever. I'll probably sell or trade it. This rifle will be using cross mags. I have some handloads already made up so a range trip is near in my future. For now its cheap bullets and low weight but I plan to work on some loads for heavier projectiles as you get the most of an SBR with heavier bullets.
I pretty much bought this thing for a good cheap to shoot medium range precision ( likely sub 500m most of the time, and maybe stretch to 800m if I'm feeling crazy) practice setup that can fit on my motorcycle so I can dual sport my way to some remote areas and set up a temporary shooting range. Its gonna be a great way to go shooting. The nice thing is being 1k I am not going to be so worried about scratching it up etc.
EDIT: forgot to mention the trigger. It's a drop in trigger tech (comes standard). So it's super light with a clean break.
Overall this rifle seems like huge bang for the buck so far, but the true test is a lot of range time and use.
First range trip should be in a week or two and I plan to report back then.
Don't mind the mess, I am in the middle of packing the gun room for a move.
