Hi CGN,

Im looking into what to replace the scope on my CIL .222 rifle. In my search, I saw a Nikon P-223 4x12x40 BDC 600.

Obviously this scope has its BDC set for a .223, but will it be close to that of a .222? I know the .222 has a lower muzzle velocity, but is the difference in muzzle velocity great enough to cause serious problems out to 400 yards?

Im not looking for a long range target rifle, just a good varmit outfit.

Has anyone done this or have any experience in this? Any info on the subject would be appreciated.

Cheers,

I would recommend getting a scope with target turrets so you can set your elevations for each range you shoot at with whatever load you are shooting with.
Depending on the size of your targets, you may wish to know your come ups for each 50 or 25 yard increments.

If you like the Nikon's, with most of their models that have the BDC you can use their "Spot on" app thingy and it will give you the range for each dot for your caliber etc.

no BDC can possibly fit all ammo variations there are.
as such you can use any ballistic calculator and match the calculated bullet drop to the reticle
or "Spot On" on the Nikon website if you're hellbent for Nikon
or an app like Strelok on android phones
