Let's see how you setup your bait stations for bear hunting

I want to try a new setup

Thanks

This past spring we used a barrel with a pole through the middle & holes drilled in it, the ends are reinforced... We then put ~ 20 lbs of whole corn in the barrel & the bears learn to turn the barrel to make the corn fall out.

We do put attractant on the outside of the barrel, syrup or fish oil works well.

We were not lucky enough to harvest this bear, maybe next spring?

Cheers

I hung a bucket with some holes drilled in the side about 7 feet above an oat pile. I kept either bacon grease or molasses in the bucket. The thinking was that it helped with scent dispersion and gave something to use as a measure when looking at the trailcam pics. Basicall anything that could stand up and get into the bucket was a shooter.

Something similar was suggested to me recently except the barrel is on the ground. Use a heavy duty eye loop bolted through the bottom of the barrel and chain to tree. The bear can roll the barrel around and the corn falls out. Adding a 5 gal. pail of old deep fryer oil to the mix works great too. The smaller holes definitely keep bait in the barrel longer than a big hole that coons can empty in a few hours.
Also tried melted marsmallows and caramel over popcorn and it worked great this fall. The mix would harden up with the cool nights and get nice and chewy in the day with the heat making the bears visit more often in daylight hours.

I Don't have any pictures on hand can get some, but I used a similar barrel with a rectangle cut out close to the bottom I would fill with sticks, and if you have time make a garbage bag of popcorn, melt marshmellows with kool-aid or sugary juice mixes, and add some molasses and dump it all over the popcorn its bear crack they love it, another simple method is a 50lb bag of corn and cover it in molasses , I also spread bacon fat on the tree's the stand up to lick it

Nothing elaborate: just dog food and cooking oil. The logs keep the coons out.

More than anything else it boils down to creating come level of competition over a limited resource. I have over baited and seen very few animals as they have no reason to come into a bait site. Oats, po####, oil and candy and we have consistent action. This guy was shot five minutes after arriving on stand with lots of noise being made to let him know there was fresh food to be had.....

That's a really nice bear. Do you have an "after" pic? :)

I went out with my buddy a few times to his spots. Similar idea with the blue plastic drums, he cuts out an 8-10"' hole in the side, we filled them up with popcorn and molasses. small logs and sticks to plug the hole as well. All three spots he had bears on his camera.

What was cool on that bait was the insane number of pictures on camera.....The marks on his face were from a sow chewing on him (on camera) while he was trying to off her cubs as near as I can tell.
