Bear bullets

Here is a picture of an old girl and her two cubs that I chased up a tree on anothr occasion, not the time the two boys were with me.
I have stated in other places, that the old timers, the prospectors and trappers, who lived in the bush year around, looked on black bears as presenting about the same danger to them, as would a Jersey cow!
I took this picture with a 35 mm camera and standard lens. No tele-photo lens of any type, thus I was maybe about twenty feet from the bear.
Just look at that old bear. Is she maybe as dangerous as a Jersey cow, or were the guys stretching it a bit!
I have no idea what shows up as red in the forground. It certainly is not blood, because there was no shooting and I didn't see any thing they were eating.

Has anyone used any of the Leverloution ammo on a black bear? I've got some 305 grains and I'm wondering how much they'll fragment and if I should be worried about penetration of quartering shots.

That's exactly what I was going to ask as well, I have a whole bunch of 30-30 leverevolution rounds and was curious if anyone has used them on black bear.

Bears are easy to kill......hit em in the right spot and they wont go far.

I will either shoot the 140TSX or the 140AB out of my 7-08AI this year. Havent quite decided yet but most likely will go TSX as they shoot really great outta my rifle.

Black bears are very easy to kill. Interlock, innerbond, accubond, blah blah blah. what every shoots best in your rifle, use it. just slip one behind the shoulder, and pour a coffee.

Me? 165gr SPBT Interlocks in my .308win.

Are you crazy!? Haven't you heard? Black bears have grown kevlar fur coats over the years. You used to be able to kill them with a 30-30 but not anymore! :stirthepot2:

He's a pretty big guy!

Plus he's got duct tape. Lots and lots of duct tape. :D

I shoot TSX. Which basically means i never worry about what i'm shooting at, they just work :)

I like to hunt bears, and I like to try out different guns/cartridges/loads bullets on them.

This year I hope to be trying out the 270gr TSX in my 375 Ruger, but other cartridges/bullets may include:

223 Rem, 53grTSX
300WSM 130gr TTSX
45 Colt 300gr FLat nose cast bullet
Might try the 30-30 WSM with 130gr TSX, who knows?
:)

Anything I'm in the mood for, from 140gr SST's in my 6.5x55 to 300gr TSX in the 375 RUM. At the end of the day, it's mostly about putting the bullets right where you want them.

Yes, bears are easy to kill. A hundred plus years ago a very effecive bullet was designed that has proven deadly on bears to this day. The bullet was the 170 grain 30 calibre, with a good chunk of lead exposed, and shot in the 30-30.

Funny I was thinking the same thing. For years I went hunting in the James Bay area with a Cree fellow. That 3030 of his was well worn and had taken many bear and moose. He was a trapper always had the axe and the 3030.
He had bought many new axes but never let go of his old 3030.

I have killed more bears than I can rememberover the past 40+ years. Most of them were taken with ordinary cup and core buillets, a few with premium bullets. From 130 gr 270s to 270 gr 375s, I have never been able to see any difference.

90 grains of FFG pushing 370 grains of maxi-ball goodness :)

Buddies 100 grain broadhead kills them just as dead too.
As stated before damn near anything with proper shot placement
