Went scouting a new area today. It was such a nice day to be out there. Found a nice bear.

About 70 or 80 yards. 150 SST annealed. Neck shot. He slumped over, tried to lift his head twice, then expired.

I know one couple on Haida Gwaii that hunts on mopeds
I thout of rigging a Mountain bike would be dead quiet

Thanks.

Nah. I just gutted him then drove 11km down to the bottom of the road and got my truck and drove back up to get him.

Thanks WhelanLad! Yes, I am very lucky to live here. If I drive 20 or 30 minutes in any direction I can hunt land like this. In this case, it was about 1 hour from home. I was scouting for moose on the bike to cover a lot of ground in an area I had never hunted, as my girls won a moose draw up there in Nov. The bear presented a shot so I brought him home. I can cover a lot of ground on that bike for a few dollars a day, and it is a real goat. It'll take me anywhere I point it. Works as an excellent commuter, too.

Congrats! Good shooting! Nice dual sport bike (I have a Suzuki DR650) - a fun way to hunt for sure.

Thanks man! Yep, dual sports are the best of all world's. Mine's an XT225. Not the best on the highway but good enough at 100km/h. It is in its element on the trails, weighing only 240 lbs and a huge usable power band. Just keeps on chugging. 31 inch seat height lets me flat foot if I get into trouble, but the clearance is still a bit over 11 inches.

Thanks for sharing your sucess.
Was out the other day and coulda swore it was the same area as ironsighter, save for the lake and we stumbled across a big blackie.
He had a big rear end and big head and ears where large, so prolly the same size as this guy in the pic.
All black and didnt want to hang around..he was safe as neither of us have bear tags not to mention it was getting dark and the 150 yrds across the slash woulda been challenging.
Hows the fat on this guy?
The guy in the Yukon has some serious fat on his recent bear...asking for comparison purposes only.

Man that looks like a great way to travel around!

with my Rokons I can run hard all day on one tank of gas and I can fit two in the back of a pick up plus wall tent and a moose and still see out my back windo
With the dual sport You would have even more room in the box

Instead of me trying to describe it or make comparisons, I butchered him today, so...

Cross section of his lower back after taking the backstraps off:

A nice slice of fat:

Some fat in a bowl with some backstrap rolled up on top:

A good inch thick of fat on his lower back, about a 1/2 inch thick on his hams, and lots of fat interspersed throughout all the muscle groups. I got about 2 and 1/2 big bowls of fat off him.
