Question, sorry more like preference.

I am off rifle hunting for deer next week. I always buy a bear tag and will shoot one if I see them. I am not going to go after bear unless we tag out on deer. So my question is, since we're not baiting, and we know bears are in the area, can any of you recommend a commercial attractant I could take just in case we switch to bear mode?

Thanks,

Happy hunting!

I know they used to make a product called bear bomb, its like an aerosol can you set down. Might be a good idea if its raining. I've heard a lot of good things about the sticks too.

Try leaving your cooler half open inside your tent?

Actually, without the smart comment, can one actually bring bears in without baiting? Like, just grab a stand for a day and probably have one come by?

I shot my bear a few years ago while using scent sticks. Not sure it they helped or not.
You could also try doing a honey burn. I have heard others say they have had great success with that.

You'll need something that will bring them in quickly like the above-mentioned scents or bear bomb. Usually they'll take several days or even weeks to get on to a barrel of bait, so you'll need something that works faster.

You can also try a honey burn. Get a couple chafing dish burners from CT and a steel can with 500ml of honey and let it simmer. Make sure you leave lots of extra space in the can because the honey can boil over. I realize you asked for a commercial attractant, but this is an easy one that works well.

The smell will get up on the wind fairly fast and will attract bears. Keep in mind that the burners last 3 hrs or so, so get a couple to go for the better part of the day, or return the next day.

Also note that unlike established baits, the bears may take some time to get to you because they're not already in the area. I've killed bears in under an hour over established baits because they were already there, probably sleeping just a short distance away. Give the smell time to get up on the wind and for the bears to get to you. Their sense of smell is outstanding but it could take several hours for the scent to reach them, and for the bear to reach you, so give yourself lots of time, or even hunt the same stand by repeatedly putting out scents for several days if possible.
