I was planning on getting my self a gopro this year for bear hunting , a couple guys around here said to put it on the ground near the bait and start the video as soon as the bear comes in (start it with the remote) while your hunting out of your stand/blind.

My question: Has anyone done this before and if so have they had any issues with the bears damaging the gopro?
Any tips on gopro placement?
Also, in your opinion did the video turn out better then one from the stand/blind?

I place mine on my bow stabilizer mounting slot. Now I'm sure you're talking about from the ground near your bait so i can't answer that because we can't bait bears in BC.

Ya i was talking about on the ground right beside the bait,
The stabilizer cams get great footage too though as i have seen a couple of those videos.

A buddy of mine had his trail camera chewed. The bear put it's tooth right thru the lens.

If you put it near the bait site while you are hunting I am guessing the bear will not get a chance to chew it as it will get shot. I personally would put it on the bow/rifle or even the tree stand.

Whatever you do good luck and keep us posted.

The only thing concern I would have is that when I turn my go pro on with the app on my phone it makes a fairly noticeable beep. Not sure if you can turn that off but I would imagine it could spook the bear

Yes you can, look it up online. I'm pretty sure there's a how to youtube video... Mine doesn't make a sound and I have a neoprene camo cover which hides the flashing lights.

You can turn off the light and sound. As for the case I bought that 3m camo vynal
wrap and did it.

I had mine on my head. A remote is MUST!! As the season before I missed all my deer harvests as I thought I turned it on. Then I bought the remotes do recorded my bear and deer hunt.

If you do get the gopro/ remote play with it for while to get the hang on it.

I tend to turn it on every 40 mins while in the bush to make sure it still "connects" with each others wifi signal. Some times it has to re find the signal when turned on t it's rare but only takes a minute or less.
you will enjoy it!! I wants other gopro so I have two going
