I shot my first black bear this spring and I'm planning on getting a 3/4 mount done, the only catch is that it had 3 legs, missing one in the front half way down. I thought of either putting it in a hornets nest or just leaving it as is to show how unique it is. Any ideas?

That's a tough question. I usually like a mount to show off any imperfections, scars, abnormalities etc. since they are what makes the animal, and the mount, unique. But a missing foot? I dunno...I might be tempted to have a shoulder mount done, and of course the cleaned skull displayed Euro-style as well. Saves a fair bit of money and space as well. A nice trophy photo, perhaps professionally enhanced and framed, is always a nice display as well, perhaps integrated into a plaque with the shoulder mount. If you have a trophy shot that displays the leg damage I think that would probably be my choice.

I've dealt with an outfit (TrophyShotPrints.com) which takes an average digital photo and manipulates colour, contrast, etc. to create some absolutely eye-popping images. Check them out, it's well worth your time if you have some photos you would like to display.

I didn't think of doing that. I want to show it somehow on the display and that's a great idea. I will look into it and see if I have any pictures worth displaying. I thought of putting the half leg into a hornets nest but that doesn't really reflect what the animal looked like. Maybe if it was hitting a nest when I shot it or something but I don't know. It's a tough decision, I will ask the taxidermist for ideas as well.

Thanks!

here a neat one I like but not sure if it can be done with part of a leg missing??
