Last weekend a bud of mine from the "Valley" drove North to spend a couple of days here in the interior.

With daytime temperatures hitting 30C shooting a bear was the last thing I wanted to do even though we bumped a few of them. One in particular - a jet black, ~6 foot fellow - did tempt me although in the end I convinced myself I didn't want to shoot him.

On Monday while I was chained to my desk in the office Rob went out on his own and shot the big guy with his video camera.

I would guess that bear to be about 5'7" maybe just under 6'. If you looking vid #2 at about the 12 second mark you can see him doing a half assed bluff charge then looking around to see who is watching. This type of behavior is common for younger boars that don't feel secure with themselves and the situation but still like to act tough. By watching this guys behavior I am thinking that somewhere there is a larger and more the dominant bear in that gereral area.

I think Rob was about 100 feet or so from the bear.

If he was the same bear we saw in that spot the day before I would estimate him to go to pretty close to 6 feet squared. I saw another one in the same area last fall that makes this fellow seem small so Republic of Alberta's thought there is a true "big-boy" in the area probably is correct.

The number of bears out feeding hard right now is amazing. While cutting firewood last week we were seeing 3 or 4 bears each day. Once our weather turns and it cools down a bit I may actually shoot one! ;)
 
good vids. strange you mention all the bears out right now. have seen 4 in the last month. it;s bizare. went to my honey hole yesterday (11 bears in 3hours best record) and saw NOTHING.

:( hoping it pics up soon, still have a tag to punch.
