Bears and more bears

I hunt in eastern Ontario and now we have a bumper crop of black bears. Have 6 bears on camera already and not feeding yet - 3 boars 250 and up by the look of it, a sow with 2 cubs and a youngster of 125-150 pounds. Gonna be a hard year for fawn survival. Fall season can't come soon enough.
 
Just finished driving home to BC. We spent time in Quebec for a couple months. The drive home was interesting (and the usual lament about Northern Ontario taking too long) we saw a few black bears on Hwy 11. They were huge bigger than what I was used to out west here. One of the camps we stayed at the guy said they get up to a 1000 lbs. That is a lot of bear.
 
Got Sow and cubs on our property... saw them crossing one of my open fields while riding the ATV.
At first glance part of my brain said... Dang dogs on my property again but the reality side said time to carry the bear spray and the .44 Mag Mare's Leg when I venture out on our 215 acre property.
 
There are a good number of bears on and around my property. Sitting on a watch last deer season I had 3 run by me at about 65 yards distance. One after the other, a cub, then the sow closely followed by a boar. In the past 2 weeks I've noticed lots of newly turned over rocks and some tracks, all within a 100 yards of the residence, but haven't seen any of them yet this year. Other than 2 BBQ's, I don't leave anything out that will attract and habituate them to coming around the yard and I won't bait on the property for the same reason. I just let them do their bear thing and thus far they have mostly stayed out of my way.

The picture in my Avatar is what one of them did to the seat on my backhoe 2 summers ago. Clawed and chewed it to pieces. The backhoe was off the tractor and sitting just off the driveway about 50 yards from the back door. The rascal did it while I wasn't around. I can't figure out what he thought was edible. I had treated the seat with either Armoral or WD40 a couple od days earlier so maybe that was enough to get it thinking it would be tasty.

Half a ton of black bear. We better start another bear defence thread. We need bigger guns!
 
so far 2 game cams, a tree stand seat and several plastic buckets have met their fate as well as a chainsaw case and the door on the out-house... bruin left a nice big pile right in front of the camp door and knocked over the water barrel.. a fine g'day - here's my 9.3x57 - HELLO
 
Grey/Bruce areas of Ontario, I've had and heard of more bear sightings this year so far than any year in the past. Next to impossible to have a trail camera set up for deer without multiple bear photos showing up on them.
Haven't hunted bears in a couple of years, but may have to this year again.

Someone lied to you.
 
Just was at the Cabin near Bancroft and there were bear prints all over the screen door and the screen was ripped. No food is kept in the cabin. We have seen black bears on trail cams and locals say they see them daily. No one in my group has seen any yet, but one says he saw a coy-wolf he thinks.
