beat up mounts on my Axis

So I finally got around to taking apart the scope setup on my Axis, to make sure everything is evenly torqued and locktighted.

I was pretty surprised to see my bases looked like this:

Front

Rear

The bright spots are where the bolt for the rings have messed up the nice 90 degree edge of the base...

As you can see, they are pretty beat up. The rifle in question is a 270, and its bone stock (Axis XP package, rings/bases/scope all came with it all together from the factory) The bases are aluminum, and not steel. (Checked with a magnet) It has about 200 rounds down the tube.

Is this normal? Or is this a clear sign of something bad?

Also, I noticed the bolt that goes through the rings (the one that attaches rings to the bases) is round. Is that normal? I figured it would be square to fit the groove better? (I have no idea, I am not well versed in the world of scope equipment...)

Any pictures of the rings? Those are Weaver mounts and they are pretty decent. I concur, it looks like bad rings or a bad ring install. Take it back to the dealer and get them replaced. Factory package is not always factory installed. Sometimes the dealer and sometimes the distributor mounts the scope.

They sure ain't Leupold, now are they?
Why worry about the bases if you are looking to change them out in the near future or where those your choice of replacements?
The screws where to long, was that what I read as another concern?
They could be filed down a little for fittment too.
Tight Groups.

Curious to know, if not pushing the rings forwards when mounting would cause this? I'd assume a battering ram effect happened between the rail/cross bolt (never seen a square bolt, but my Spuhr isms has square recoil lugs(has side plate to secure to rail))

How was your zero holding?

I've already put it back together so i can't take a picture of the rings...

It was bought over a year ago, taking it back to the store won't get me anywhere at this point i would think. (From WSS not LGS, although i wouldn't expect an LGS to do anything either)

As for zero, i was holding fine until the last trip to the range. Last time out it was shooting high and right by like 3" at 100 yards. The weekend before that I spent a lot of time driving gravel roads with it in the back seat of the truck, inside it's cheap plano hard case.

I took it apart because i wanted to locktite the whole setup so i could eliminate that as a source of error. I am going hunting for a week starting Thursday so I wanted to make sure to reduce my chances of losing my zero while out...

Yes these are the aluminum bases that came on the rifle along with the rings. They are supposed to be installed by the factory, as they are advertised as boresighted out of the box.
