Ya now if fur prices were worth something it would be all good.
worked for coyote last sale.
Even with the bounty program,less yotes were taken than by normal trapping activities in past years.
Supply and demand saw some $60+ pelts go through.
now,does anyone have any firm info on the beaver bounty?
all I could find was resolutions to lobby...unless I'm reading it wrong...and it's $40 split 50/50 SARM/Province not $30...
Resolution 10-07M:
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to establish a beaver bounty.
Response from Honourable Dustin Duncan, Minister of Environment:
Beaver problems are not a province-wide issue. However, above-normal precipitation during this past summer has left some areas of the province with significant moisture heading into the winter, which has led to an increase in beaver related issues. While depressed markets have reduced trapping efforts in recent years, the Ministry of Environment continues to support trapping as the most effective long-term means of regulating beaver populations. For this reason, the ministry is not considering instituting a provincial bounty on beaver.
Rural municipalities are better positioned to ensure that local problems are addressed with the most cost-effective solutions. Any rural municipality can institute a bounty within its own jurisdiction as long as the beaver are harvested using legal means.

Beaver Bounty
Category: Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment
Year: 2011
Resolution Number: 16-11A
WHEREAS the exploding beaver population is costing municipalities thousands of dollars in infrastructure destruction; and
WHEREAS municipal ratepayers will encounter financial losses because of flooded land and yard sites, as well as property access problems;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Government of Saskatchewan establish a beaver bounty in the amount of $40 per beaver to be cost-shared 50/50 with rural municipalities and administered by the municipality, similar to the coyote program in order to help control this pest.

Problem Beaver Control
Category: Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment
Year: 2011
Resolution Number: 17-11A
WHEREAS problem beavers can result in flooding of productive farmland, pasture, and hay land and the Government of Saskatchewan has included compensation for beaver damage for producers under the Wildlife Damage Compensation Program; and
WHEREAS these problem beavers can also result in serious damage to municipal infrastructure and the ongoing costs associated with beaver management are beyond the financial resources of many municipalities; and
WHEREAS the Province of Manitoba has recognized the need to work with municipal governments and implemented a problem beaver management program;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to create a problem beaver management program including a beaver bounty; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Government of Saskatchewan for a proactive program of 50/50 cost-sharing of the infrastructure expenses including, but not limited to, road culvert protection, removal of beaver dams and clean out of blocked culverts on municipal property; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to establish a financial incentive for landowners related to the removal of problem beavers and dams; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to assume all costs associated with problem beavers and dams on crown lands.
from Dustin Duncan, Minister of Environment's response,it looks to me like the Government doesn't want to be involved beyond the $500 000 they put up...
And I can't find a "yes I get $40 for every beaver I take" anyplace.
that's good incentive on top of the hide for fur and the carcass for bear bait.
If anyone can find a concrete yes/no I'd appreciate a post of it.
