Bedding a Stevens

I just bought a Stevens 200 in .308 and I want to bed the action, I'll be using Devcon Steel. What I want to know is, how to safely remove the trigger without a lot of pieces flying all over the place: Can I just remove the pin that goes thru the trigger and the bottom of the action, also what about the safety... any suggestions would be appreciated

bob you can remove the trigger group by simply popping the pin out the safety will come with it when you remove the pin the little sspring thing will fall out but other then that everything should come out as a whole

You don't need to remove the trigger group to bed. Just put release agent on the sear and trigger group body. It doesn't come close to the bedding compound if done properly.

"...You don't need to remove the trigger group to bed...." Exactly. The rifle doesn't needto be disassembled for a bedding job. The trigger group can be wrapped with plastic wrap or plasticine too.

That's the way I do it. I rarely remove a trigger group when bedding.

I would follow the advise to not remove the trigger group if you don't feel comfortable. I remove it, but then again my mom had a room full of stuff that I took apart as a kid.

Particularly when you are new to this stuff the epoxy can get away from you on the odd occasion. Never has with rifles, but I have had other disasters. If you don't remove excess parts, at least consider blocking anything that might get epoxy in it with some plasticine, tape, or wax.

I've bedded rifles before and actually I didn't remove the trigger groupe when I bedded my Savage 10 FP-LE2B, but my thinking was, that seeing the Stevens doesn't have the Accu-trigger, I could remove it and try to smooth it up a little at the same time

These triggers can be a bit of a pain to reassemble the first time. If you have a tumbler for case cleaning I've heard putting the trigger parts in there will smooth things up quite a bit. I used my dremel and polished all contact points being carefull not to remove any extra metal.
